MN Music Via Texas

I had a blast last year, but that’s around the time I’ll be moving, so this is iffy for me. I’ll probably to go Interactive but not Music this year.

Metallagher, nice.

Yeah, Metallagher rulez. MySpace page.

Man, I’ve wanted to go every year for the past million years, and I never seem to get my act together. I’m actually more interested in the internet week than anything (the music is appealing, too, of course).

I did the platnium pass last year, which got me into all three (film, music, interactive).

Film: Although there was vastly too much to take in, I got to catch a few things no one else saw until much later, such as the Sarah Silverman flick. This year, SXSW is premiering the Prairie Home movie, which I really should attend for nostalgic reasons.

Music: This was my least enjoyable of the three, primarily because it was over-booked. Even with press credentials (or, um, friends with press credentials), it was impossible to get into many shows. Vastly too much time was spent standing in lines that never moved.

Interactive: This was the most fun, probably because the internet kids have more money than musicians, so the drugs are better.

Oops, I didn’t just type that.

I don’t know why I just called it the “internet week” up there — yeah. Anyway, I think Interactive would be like a celebrity mindfuck for me, finally seeing all those faces in real life I’ve followed on the internet for the past 10 years or so. I’ve heard the same things about music, too — fun in theory, but chaos in person.

I’ll go if there’s a Minneapolis party Winnebago heading down.

vamp music source will be there. 3rd year and counting…

The Clipd Beaks will be there, too. Haven’t see them live before, but I have a few friends who love their live shows.

Oops, those guys might not be local anymore.

I’ve gone the last 3 years. Last year was an absolute blast,
esp. interactive. Also: the Guided By Voices tribute was awesome,
as was Todd Solondz and the documentaries I saw. Melody Gilbert’s
“A Life Without Pain” had a jam-packed emotional debut.

I wasn’t going to go this year, but just found out I’m on a newly-added videoblogging panel. Hoorah!

Goddamn… the one year I could go, I can’t go. I’ve already planned a trip to L.A. the week after SXSW, and I can’t swing both. As much as I’d like to see about a million bands at SXSW, getting the chance to meet Brannon Braga is WAY more important.

tapes ‘n tapes are in as well.

Odds are I’ll be staying in Minneapolis again this year manning the controls (someone’s gotta do it.) Especially if I can live vicariously through Kate like in 2005.

Goddamnit Rex, please create a feature on MNSpeak that will block my IP address between the hours of 2:00 and 7:00am. After-after-bar is hardly an appropriate time for public posts.

david – i’d be happy to daily blog for you this year!

An updated list is here. And there are mp3s to download, as well.
