Inexplicably flying under the radar in the local music scene is this band. The Slats are all transplants from Iowa but have been kicking around the Minneapolis scene for years. They recently opened for Vicious Vicious at the Triple Rock and play all over the cities about twice a month. They sound like all the best parts of Burning Airlines, Brainiac and Pixies. I’m confused. Has their complete sound changed since I saw them in early October?

I saw them in October and was not impressed at all. I nearly left the show early to avoid further annoyance.

What did they sound like before?
Their sound is very versatile, they switch singers and tempos frequently so it is quite possible to hear a few different songs and mistake them for separate bands.
Though I don’t know that they are so much “under the radar,” they are definitely worth a listen.

I’m trying to remember if I’ve seen them before. Did they by chance open for Gogogo Airheart at the Entry in November? They kind of stopped updating their tour history page last August. I remember liking all three bands, and that one of the bands was the Joggers, but my memory isn’t serving me very well on the third.

you know I said “under the radar” and regretted it. They just don’t get the attention in the STrib or the P.Press that bands like Vicious Vicious or STNNNG get. “Under the radar” was a poor choice of words.
