Kiss Snoopy Goodbye

if they start out by calling it ‘the park at moa,’ it will probably just stick over time and become known as ‘the park.’ how boring. how about “the sign formerlly known as camp snoopy,” “destination lotsa kids, lotsa germs,” “camp hoopty,” or “the oasis”?

How about Consumption Junction?

“The Camp” or “The Camp at Mall of America.”

Shoot me if that sticks. It’d be pretty easy to de-snoopify the place and make it look, well, campy. That’s a cheap option for them at least. Bleh.

I think “Camp MOA” is just fine. Unless they get sued by K.O.A.

Taylor and I on the same wavelength… just a minute apart (and why is my timestamp earlier but post later?)

I wonder if other Cedar Fair (which owns Valleyfair and “The Park”)properties that have Snoopy themes will be affected? Cedar Point, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom, Worlds of Fun, and Michigan’s Adventure all use Snoopy themes…

I think they should call it Mall Park and Wildwater Kingdom’s Castle (if they buy out the “Waterpark of America” or whatever the new eyesore next to 494 and Cedar will be called).

Let’s see an Alice in Wonderland or Willie Wonka themed park, where the children aren’t safe and the laughter is unsure.

How about a more corporate friendly sponsor? Target Park, 3M Playland, Camp Medtronic?

Camp Spongebob Squarepants!

“Camp Shoot-Me.” – That’s how I’ve always known it anyway.

camp poopy. there. i said it.

If I were them, I would work out a deal with The Lego Group, expand Lego Land, and give them naming rights to the park. Point.Set.Match.

Lego > Peanuts

How about MOA Money, MOA problems

Knott’s Kamp Krusty? “That’s not good….”

A simple solution –Why not name the camp after some attractions already located in MOA? Some possibilities:

Damp Camp — an expansion of Underwater Adventures, now hidden in the depths of the Megamall. Enjoy the ER television series “Jump the Shark” attraction, were there is a cliffhanger in every episode!

Hootersville — an outgrowth of the popular theme restaurant and airline.

Keillor Kamp — sponsored by the TCT/2 store and Buttermilk Biscuits, this vast indoor playground is almost as big as Garrison’s ego. Free PHC approved slogan t-shirts for the first 100 visitors.

I like Camp Medtronic.
The magical stent ride.
The twisting vascular rollercoaster.
Free medical seminars for kids over 8.
How’s that not fun?

My horse is bigger than your horse. So this means my horse is capable to challenge the Camp Snoopy

Call it Camp Swampy it make it Beetle Bailey-themed.

I think a good name for the old camp snoopy would be:

Lucas and cat camp world

WCCO sponsor it and call it

The Gruca Parka

I think the name should be Camo of MInnesota

I think it should be called Camp of Minnesota

I like how taulpaul think. Make it about the legos!

Here are links to stories about this: Biz Journal | AP | PiPress.

I like Camp Medtronic and the Beatle Bailey themes.

Going on that business theme, I’d say “Jack Prescott’s Old Timey Amusement-Themed Entertainment Center” would be a good way to honor the busiest bankruptcy lawyer in Minnesota.

Or on the comic theme, they already have a terribly failing “Dogpatch-themed” park from Lil’ Abner in Arkansas somewhere, so I say we go with “Mark Trail Land” or “Rex Morgan MD Fair.”

The Hamm’s Beer Bear Camp.

Prairie Ho Camp-anion

haw about Camp Uptown. lots of body piercing and bad hair. there could be the ride where it looks like no one rides it and you could feel so original but really its the most popular ride at the park

Call it Camp of America, and theme the park with ride names for different states, hence the Mall of America.

the morning show on the current did a pretty funny bit about this this morning… they called their “idea man” out in l.a. to get some ideas. he came up with camp “shloopy” or camp she-hulk.

that then led the morning show to get at least a couple geeky calls from people correcting some facts about she-hulk.

i think they should leave the word ‘camp’ completely out of it. and maybe they’ll even have to since it was always known as ‘camp snoopy’ and the peanuts folks won’t let them retain the ‘camp’ usage.

According to my 21 year old son, KSTP should sponsor it and call it “Camp Dumpster”

How about Camp Procreation Deterrent?

Ok, Ok, I got it, how about Melting Pot USA.

Camp Bunyan (Paul Bunyan theme)

Bob from ALAMN speaking. I have been accused (with some justification) of turning every MNSpeak discussion thread into a debate on smoking bans. That is certainly not my intent today, but this Camp Snoopy blog posting from rabid pro-smoke activist Mark Wernimont was just too much to keep to myself. Savor its rich strangeness…

alamn Bob should be banned from anymore postings on MNSpeak

Oh now, be nice, that one was kinda funny. Smoking Ban Kills Snoopy!

Reply to garcia: MOA ended their management contract with Cedar Fair early last year – hence why MOA is having problems working out a new contract to use the Peanuts gang. Expect to see a Camp Snoopy or something similar pop up at ValleyFair! soon as they still have the rights to use the characters.

I think it is really sad that “Camp Snoopy” will be no longer because some pinhead in suits can’t get along and play nice in the sandbox.

alamn Bob- I usually skip your posts (no offense but they’re about the same thing) but I backtracked based on Rex’s comment. Awesome link. Thanks. Pretty amazing.

I agree with lschmidt, it is sad to see it go under these circumstances. But I like the Lego Land idea… or else go with another comic. Maybe Garfield, or Mutts. MUTTSLAND. There is an idea. I personally LOVE the comic Mutts.

I think the name “Mall of America” should be changed to “Mall of Africa” – nice name!

Camp Edina

justsomeguy is right on the money. When Cedar Fair was operating both Camp Snoopy and Valleyfair! it didn’t make sense for them to have snoopy as a mascot for both parks. If the management change had taken place about two years earlier when Valleyfair phased out the Berenstein Bears, I’m willing to bet they would have reworked the kids area around Snoopy instead of developing Kidworks. Even so I wouldn’t be surprised if your kid can hug a costumed Snoopy character at Valleyfair! this summer.

As far as playing nice in the sandbox goes Snoopy is an important visual for many of Cedar Fair’s parks and even appears in five of their parks logos. From their perspective it’s about maintaining their brand and the consumer’s association between their parks and the Snoopy Character.

It will be interesting to see what animated series the MOA is able to snag the rights to. Paramount Parks currently has the rights to Nickelodeon characters as well as the Hanna Barbera group. Six flags features the Looney Tunes.

As far as possible names go as long as they settle on something other than The Park at MOA, I’ll be a happy camper. But who am I kidding you Minnesotan’s still refer to Marshall Fields as Dayton’s anyway so who cares what they call it.

I think they should call it Camp Scooby Doo, have spooky rides all year around. JS

If they name it Spongebob Superpants, I will not go to it. How about Camp Tom and Jerry. Katie

Camp Scooby Doo? You’re just asking for the guy who runs the ferris wheel to dress in a scary mask and commit crimes!

I like the Garfield idea and the Lego Land idea.

Why not get Disney in the mall, have a bunch of Disney characters or themes.

Or better yet, have it a Winnie the Pooh theme,
“Hundred Acre Wood at the Mall”

I think that The park at MOA should be called MOA Acres

This is ridiculous! I can’t believe you’re changing the name! Camp Snoopy is classic! There’s no other name for it! Wow, I’m really going to miss Camp Snoopy. Good Luck picking a better name :’( Charles Shultz deserves the honor :(

And what MM said, The winnie the pooh idea is very good! =)

It’s pretty sad to see the “Camp Snoopy” name leave but I’m sure it will still pull in the people to use the park.

Prehaps they should develop their own set of characters, or contract something with UMN to use Goldy.

Stevie Ray just announced he wants naming rights.

Maybe Ole and Lena …

Isn’t that already the nickname for Ikea?

Is it? I had no idea…

Forget Stevie Ray… maybe Fancy Ray?

I think United Media is greedy and taking advantage of the fact that Charles Schulz is dead. I am sure he knew bout the theme park plans before his death, because it takes years to plan out such elaborate things.

Disney should buy it and call it DisneyMall

I lekd Camp Snoopy but if it has to change I think a Popeye, Olive Oyl, Sweet Pea & Brutus Theme would be a great option considering they are doing the indoor waterpark at the mall too, anything but “The Park At MOA” how dull!!!!

its should be could michal jackson land

I am really sad to see the name camp snoopy go but, the idea that I liked was damp camp because it would be like an under water adventure kind a theme. And they could also make the theme go with the rides like the Mystery Mine ride could be like your in the ocean.

I don’t like water parks, thanks.

I say talk to the U.S Park Service and ask for permission to use Smokey
Bear . they would’nt be much in the way of transition regarding the style of the park and The Copyright does belong to the Park Service and they already have some ready made products which could be both sold and also given away .
The Title of the park could be called Smokey Bear’s Campground ..and by the way ..there is already a 30 ft statue of Smokey Bear in International Falls Minnesota ..a big time tourist stop.hope if you use this that I could get some credit. terry maloney

Camp Snoopy is wonderful place at Mall of America. It should not go …it should stay there forever and forever . It should never replace because it is very special place at mall of america ( Snoopy) . I love collect snoopy and i love snoopy store !!!!!!! I am very huge fan snoopy !!!!!!!!!!
