It had to do with farm policy and they way farmers were reimbursed for thier stored corn. The change in policy made it more cost effective and porifitable for farmers to convert their crops to corn syrup than to store it or ship it as a grain. This knocked the bottom out of the corn syrup market and dropped the price of Sugary Soda.<br /> <br /> Not sure if I believe it, be it does correlate in timing with the obesity rise in the USA.
