Before The Internet, MST3K

the first time i met joel he emcee’d either a dance contest night or a final round of great pretenders at first ave. (great pretenders was air guitar night–you pretended to be a band {no instruments or anything} and there were winners at the end of each night.) anyway, he seemed uncomfortable with the crowd at first ave, so when mst turned up and he had his back to the audience it made total sense. that guy is aces. love him.

love rex too. thanks for the memories; i haven’t thought about that show in 15 years.

I remember watching the big Thanksgiving marathons they did. We would drink some beers and watch after Turkey Day dinner. The show was still good after Mike replaced Joel but the shows weren’t as funny I think.

WOW! I was perusing thru some one of the links and they had a picture of the Higgens Boys and Gruber. Anyone remember that show? It was fairly odd. The heavier guy was on the Ellen show I think.

One of the main projects of the Digital Archive Project is the release of high quality DVDs of MST3K that are not available commercially.

I have about 30 or so of these discs and love them. I started watching the show before I moved to Minnesota. Now, when I watch them again, all of the local humor makes so much more sense.

Yeah, I always wondered what it must be like for non-Minnesotans to watch MST3K. The constant references to Blaine, Hopkins, and Edina must go right over their heads.

“O Captain! My Captain!”

I wish we had more local programming… WCCO used to have a few shows. KTCA, as well.

Now, local affiliates won’t support such ventures – they hardly spend anything on their newscasts. Write your news directors and station managers to change this.

I can’t speak for anyone from outside the Midwest but the show was well-loved by Wisconsinites. Man, I love jokes about the Dells.

Mpls Simpleton: said heavy guy is on Malcolm in the Middle now. I don’t remember much about the Higgins Boys and Gruber, aside from the fact that they showed episodes of Super Car.

God bless that show. I love it so much it makes me weep.

FYI: MST3K.org is no longer the “fan site”. Is it now owned by a person selling copies of episodes. The fan site has moved to http://www.mst3000.org/
