A couple days ago, I complained about the lack of online presence from Mpls St. Paul Magazine, pointing out three stories from the current issue that I would mention if I could link to them. The gripe was heard, and the three stories are now available on the good ol’ internet. They include: a close look at the megachurches that are springing up in the suburbs, a story that revisits the first couple to get married at the MOA seven years ago, and a profile of standup comedian Nick Swardson. Even though the national media hipsterati has recently replaced ridiculing local tv with ridiculing local magazines as a favorite past time, all of these stories are nice additions to our local media repertoire.

What’s really cool about our so-called “fragmented media society” is that every publication and broadcaster in town produces something that matters to “people like us” (for the moment, let’s pretend that category has some meaning). Sure, maybe most of Mpls St. Paul Magazine isn’t exactly made for us, but parts of it are, and now we live in a culture where we can pick and choose the parts that matter to us. Ya know?
Anyway, thanks to Steve Marsh for getting the stories up.

Hey, Swardson is a more important (and funnier!) comic than Tim Slagle. I assure you. C’mon read it, people. I’m reaching out to you disaffected hipsterati.

I liked the article about the megachurches.
I wonder how long it will be before we start to see some viral marketing for Jesus.

I now find it weird that Nick was in my homeroom in high school.

This is great. Mpls St. Paul is a good mag, but I seldom get the print edition.

They just hired a new top-notch web producer. So look for online improvements in the months ahead.
