Tapes ‘n Tapes released a new album last week and it immediately became the #3 add on national college radio and the #5 add at AAA radio. The Onion called The Loon “one of the best locally produced discs of the year,” and City Pages reviewed it positively. The band play a CD-release show tomorrow at the Turf Club with Friends Like These and Bridge Club.

“The Loon” is great. Like a more romantic radiohead or something. But I don’t understand this whole “annotated mix tape” thing. What’s Lindsay on about?

is this site just full of ex-City Page writers or what?
12:00 pm
I don’t think a single ex-CPer has posted to this site yet. Several current and former people comment though.

Actually, right now I’m procrastinating from the offices of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine. You’ve probably never heard of it, thedude — it’s not free.

i think i read that Mag once at my Dentists office, but couldn’t understand it so i went back to reading Highlights

To be fair, you’re not a 55-year-old woman from Wayzata, are you?
12:31 pm
if only Trendsetters would start doing music reviews.
12:50 pm
Seriously though, can somebody explain the annotated mix tape thing? Is it just the CD in cassette form or is it something else?
12:51 pm
They made a mix tape, dude. It’s in the City Pages…if you’re looking online you have to scroll past the ad. I’ll give you a copy of it tomorrow night.
12:55 pm
Aha! The scroll. I hate the scroll.
They made a mix tape? Stoners.

Okay, maybe I’m missing something. I guess I’m not sure why this post was made. The CP writes up bands every week. Is one of the Tapes ‘n Tapes members a contributor here or something?

Mpls.St.Paul Magazine? is that the one that comes free from public tv/radio? Whatever mag that is, it’s all just one big ad for restaurants and bed & breakfasts, worthless as he**!
2:06 pm
That’s Minnesota Monthly, Ray. But we are also choked with ads for restaurants and bed & breakfasts. Just wait till they come out with a TiVo for magazines though. And this blog isn’t the Strib’s, so I’m pretty sure you can write “hell.”
2:09 pm
Alexis, I think Rex posted it. Rex, are you in Tapes n Tapes? They have a new drummer, I think, but he’s like 18. Rex, are you 18?
I think Rex is just down with the tapes.

Okay, I think I see what I missed. The fact that a local band is getting national attention. Interestingly, I had to read the post 3 times before my brain picked it up. It most likely was looking for hyperlinks. I read too many blogs.

From what I can tell, it is the highest any band locally has charted with adds on national college radio, in quite some time. http://www.vitriolradio.com/charts.html
I think that alone is worth comment or posting, but I am a bit biased.
2:38 pm
I’m biased too. I’m dating the lead singer.

Is it just me or has the vibe around here gotten seriously out of whack the last week or so?
Maybe it’s just the buildup of collective anxiety over halloween costume choice.
3:26 pm
I kinda dig the current vibe. I wasn’t here to see what it was like before, though, so I can’t say for sure. I only found out yesterday that this site even existed. I like it a lot, though, you guys are pretty alright folks.

People just need to calm down a bit. I will blame Season Affective Disorder, put on my asshole blinders and soldier on!
3:50 pm
Shoot–and I already defriended Tapes ‘n Tapes on MySpace.
There goes my cred.
8:26 pm
I also just erroneously defriended those motherfuckers.
Damn.
1:38 am
Ya’ll haters betta recognize…Tapes n Tapes is tha real muthafucking shit, the only thing that MN has produced that’s worth a good goddamn. What?
10:21 am
i like the mixer. i can turn down the vocals if they scare me. i can turn down the random drums if they bother me. i can turn it up loud when i want. i feel so free.
2:55 pm
Bridge Club totally blows Tapes away. The Loon is just Josh trying to be Bridge Club.
