I am very disappointed with myself for not buying tickets to that Soul Asylum concert. I expect it will be a good show.
BTW, here is some good-quality video of Tommy playing in the Entry when he was like 13 or 14.

Why are the Strib’s standards of verification so much higher for sports stories than other news. Why not just go with “high ranking sources”, or “some say”?
Isn’t not publishing the names of Viking’s who were on the boat unfair to the players who weren’t?

mike that video’s a trip! but wasn’t he a bit older than that–maybe 16? i remember a group of us tried to buy him a beer at the longhorn one night, and he turned us down because he said he was underage–he said he was 18, but he didn’t look it. they wouldn’t have been able to play there if he had imbibed. we were underage too! ah the good old days…

Okay, after further research (on allmusic.com) I can report that Tommy was born on October 6, 1966. When that video was recorded in September 1981, he would have been 14 going on 15.
This also means, of course, that he is now only 39 years old. Good God….

As a footnote, the author of the Soul Aslyum piece (Charlie Amter) attended Macalester in the early 90’s.
