Did you know Mpls has one of the best scenes on two wheels in the US, and while the rest of us are watching two teams that aren’t the Vikings in the Super Bowl, there are bike messangers tearing around on t he ice covered streets of downtown? The bike culture goes far beyond tall bikes and messangers.

yeah, the city pages did an article back in august about them getting booted from their downtown hangout.

Well, there hasn’t been ice or snow for stupor bowl or even bitter cold really in any real amount for the last few years. It’s been disappointing.
And stupor bowl is on Saturday. Recovery/drunken debauchery occurs on Sunday during the Super Bowl. Bike messengers are Americans too after all. Stupor bowl is kind of a national event now. Probably in it’s sixth or seventh year. I’d say there were probably around 100 or so racers last year from most of the major metropolitan cities in attendance. A big step up from the 30 or so of us who raced the first year.
Losing the Space I’m sure sucked. Some people worked really hard to get and keep that going. As a group bike messengers tend not to be the most accomodating or cooperative. They kind of refuse to be managed.
For awhile we even got a dental plan going through the mbma.
Tim, Fred, b-rad, hell even Ellis who while a complete psycho did provide some energy (usually from a coke buzz imho) to getting things done and all deserve a shout-out. I’m sure I missed some but they all know who they are.
Sometimes I really miss the space and the bench. But mostly I miss ahmey and sam. Hope they are doing ok.
