Since we’re all wrapped up in conversations of copyright/trademark, I wonder what Devo thinks of the Hawley Public School District’s fifth-graders covering “Whip It” (video). With a video that was originally directed by local boy Chuck Statler, the song comes to life in a strange new way in the cover version. (Hawley is about 20 miles east of Fargo.) UPDATE: It looks like this video got BoingBoinged, so I’ve uploaded it here.

I don’t have to say that I’m kidding about comparing this to other trademark/copyright converations, right? Good.

I just saw this posted on boingboing as well. I wonder what the Hawley Public Schools’ servers are feeling like right now.
We had lipsync day onetime in grade school music class, and I chose to do “Bring tha Noise” by Public Enemy and Anthrax. The principal called my folks and sent me home for the day.
