Whoa, I didn’t see this one coming. MPR has invested in the upcoming social-networking (i.e., Friendster, MySpace) website Gather.com. This is big for a couple reasons: 1) MPR is investing in a for-profit company (which isn’t unprecedented, but is still weird) and 2) MPR is investing in a dot-com (which is completely unprecedented). Normally, the biggest problem in these kinds of online media relationships is that the big company never figures out how to integrate the small company. But along with a nice series of recent success stories, MPR.org has a lot of smart people on-staff, so this could turn out interesting.

We all knew that MPR is a corporate whore anyway. This just seals the deal.
