So the Star Tribune’s foxy intern publishes an article on her acceptance into an exclusive online community for beautiful people. And, of course, we comment on it. How can we not? She’s like the Minneapolis version of SJP, really. But then someone writes in an indignant letter to the Star Tribune’s editor, denouncing the piece as a waste of space. (Someone has to remind the Star Tribune’s to stick to their hard hitting journalism!) We, of course, then comment on the letter to the editor. One of us even goes so far as to send a mocking letter to the daily paper pointing out the absolute inanity of the situation — which the Star Tribune then publishes. Beautiful.

The question, really, is whether the STrib folks thought it would be funny to publish the sacrastic letter or whether it’s just an accident.

What I like most is that I have no idea where we stand on Zayas anymore. I’m going to be sad when she’s done with her internship.

I didn’t get the sarcasm in the first post to begin with, and still didn’t see the sarcasm in the Strib letter. So I’m guessing that the Strib folks saw it as a fawning letter worth publishing. I’m not dense. I swear. But the sarcasm doesn’t really show through. Wait…is it sarcastic even?

“Are you being ironic?”
“I don’t even know anymore, man.”
well-played, Taylor. even if this whole situation is getting far too meta for me.

Alexandra and all her sorority sisters have discovered us.
11:56 pm
Way to be totally sarcastic, Taylor! You really showed them a thing or two.

Whoa. So, like, are you being sarcastic about Taylor being sarcastic? Ok, I’ve lost it. I am never commenting on this incident again. Promise.

I think Alex is a brilliant writer and that you are all extremely jealous of her capability! People are just jealous of your beauty! You GO GIRL!

Girls, I think most of us think that Alexandra has a lot of potential as a writer. And showing up here with a dose of levity helped her cause. Sending out the cheerleading squad, however, doesn’t.

I like how the Strib removed the double entendre quotes from that letter.

A young person, an intern, just getting her feet wet, is given a fun article to write about. Then, is able to capture an intelligent indifference mixed with the overwhelming human need to be loved in a simple and fun article about a shallow website. Where is the problem?
The problem lies in the middle-aged posers, such as yourself, who spend all your time degrading a group of people that you have become convinced have alienated you when, you, in fact, have alienated yourselves with your narrow worldviews.
It’s sad that a group of so-called “shallow” people were able to embrace Alexandra more than a group of self-proclaimed intellectuals with cosmopolitan worldviews.
In other words, instead of writing fake letters to newspapers, why don’t all of you do a little introspection and try to remember a time when you were young and trying to find your voice.
Either that or you can get a job and a life…one or the other.
