Who would have thought that the St. Paul mayoral race was this interesting. Democratic Mayor Randy Kelly, who is running for re-election this year, just keeps piling up supporters — including prominent Minnesota politicians like T-Paw and Norm Coleman. The Governor and Senator yesterday attended a fundraiser for Kelly where Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, a Democrat whose administration is currently caught in an investigation that has produced numerous convictions, gave his backing to the St. Paul Mayor. A Democratic fundraiser featuring two GOPers and a scandalous mayor? Who wasn’t invited to this eclectic gathering? Well, apparently the media. Kelly’s campaign said it was at the request of Daley, but it might also have something to do with the Kelly’s democratic image, his past Republican support and St. Paul’s history of DFL mayors.

from a spin standpoint, i liked it when kelly said he’s just trying to do a good job by not paying attention to political lines. however … the fact that he supported bush in the elections last year (as a registered DFL) was ridiculous and a slap in the face. if he really – truly – wants to be above political “sides” he should run as an independent.
