I should put a warning at the beginning of this post that it’s “Almost Real Reporting.” This kind of digital sleuthing has always been a fascination of mine, and I’ve written about it before such as when I dug up the Usenet postings of American Taliban John Walker Lindh and when I wrote about Plain Layne.

i am horrified at how quick everyone is to put all this information out now that Shasta has been found and Dylan is presumed dead (pending DNA) results from the remains found…….. It seems as tho he was fairly popular before he was on the news AGAIN. WHY WAS NOTHING SAID BEFORE THESE INNOCENT FAMILIES WERE TORE APART BY THIS SICK MONSTER? Anyone who knew any of this before now and didnt say anything deserves to be tormented like the Groene family is now. And I hope his idiotic neighbor that befriended him knows that she is going to hell for being such a complete MORON!! and she contributed to endangering those innocent babies too!!!!!!!!!

What makes me angry is the red tape you have to go through to find the registered sex offenders in your area. Why can’t they just be nade public or doesn’t the public have a right to know..and to protect the children?!?!
There should be a full page in the paper with their picture, location, offenses etc.

Crazy stuff. You know, all of us at one time or another feel like life has no purpose and that nothing we do matters…but not all of us go out and make other people’s lives hell because of it. No sympathy from me. Burn in hell Duncan.

People will never be able to get to the crux of the problem here because the desire to UNDERSTAND the situation is non-existant, only vengeance matters. Society has tunnel vision when it comes to violent criminals. Is there some sort of self-satisfaction that I am missing out on by not hating Joseph Duncan with every cell in my body? Instead I possess a deep curiosity to understand what happened. Which is the healthy way to be?

There’s not as much red tape to find the registered sex offenders in your area as you might think – you can do a search by something as general as street, city, or even county on the MN Department of Corrections website. Here’s the direct link:

Not that it will neccessarily do anyone any good – sexual predators obviously aren’t deterred by geographic boundaries.

This whole case is weird… first of all, Duncan took a great many risks for someone who had just murdered a nine- year old, allowing himself and Shasta to be filmed on gas station surveillance, eating at Denny’s, ect. Secondly, blog posts can have their dates changed at any time, to any date, by anyone with the right password. Finally, authorities did know Duncan was a sex offender, they just didn’t know he was in Idaho. You can be sure that the judge who allowed bail is kicking himself right now.

I also wanted to point out that if you have read the earliest postings on Duncan’s site, that you’ll want to run virus protection software pronto.

Is no one else concerned about the anger that this man felt toward his own continuing victimization at the hands of the police? Every good leader knows that most people will live up to your expectations of them. Is it any wonder that the man re-offended after being constantly re-criminated and harassed by the police? May God have mercy on all of us for our readiness to demonize whole classes of people.

Interesting point about society’s expectations causing Duncan to re-offend. But then again, if society thinks you’re wearing a red shirt, it is possible that your shirt is red because everyone tells you it is, but it’s a heck of a lot more likely that your shirt is red because that’s the one you chose to put on when you got dressed this morning. May God have mercy on all of us who blame society for an individual’s choice of clothing…

Reading through some of his blog it’s obvious he blames everyone but himself. He takes no responsibility for his crimes and carefully avoids discussing them.
Sadly many people’s comments seem to indicate they’re also quick to void the obvious grim reality of his actions; he killed people, molested and raped children without remorse.

It’s not weird that he went back to Coeur d’Alene. It’s obvious he wanted to be caught. He even eluded to that on his blog. Whether or not he thought it would be in a “blaze of glory” like suicide by cop, or maybe he just wanted to be locked up… Either way it seems obvious that, since they didn’t have a clue who had the Groene kids, he could’ve killed Shasta and disappeared with only the Minnesota crime and the Jeep theft to answer for. And he might’ve eluded those crimes for quite awhile since they aren’t big FBI priorities. I think he was at the end of his rope and needed to do something “big” before he let himself get caught. Maybe big enough to warrant execution. That’s my take. And I’m on both sides of the earlier argument – I think he should fry AND I think there needs to be a bigger effort to understand these sick people in hopes to stop them before they get this bad. But if they can’t – KEEP THEM AWAY FROM OUR KIDS!!

Well, now. Mr. Duncan. All I can say, is that you are a very strange individual. You feel persecuted. Rightly so. You probably never imagined you would ever have so many people read your blog. I am kinda new to blogs, and I started one at edspeak.blogspot.com, recently. I’m not sure what to think of you. I cannot imagine how you came to be this way. I don’t understand it. You say you educated yourself. I don’t really think you did such a good job of it. In fact, you have no common sense. No sense of right or wrong. Could you have asked yourself, before you did, what you did. Would I like this to have been done to me? Would that had been so hard? Don’t you think about anything else, except yourself. You treated your cats, in the beginning of the blog, with more respect, than you ever did, the people you ruined, and killed later on. I don’t know what to think about you. I am glad you posted your blog. It is interesting to see somewhat how you think. I can see, you have no sense of right, or wrong, or common sense. Did you ever hear of the saying, “do unto others, as you would have them do unto you?” Well, I’m not going to judge you, or feel sorry for you. I think if I were in a position to stop you from doing what you did to those unfortunate people. And, if I could had seen in the future somehow. Just as Hitler had his beginnings. I would happly put a bullet into your brain. I know that is a terrible thing to say. But, then again, what you did, was terrible too. No offense. But, you never considered what your actions did to others. Your blog was all about you, and your worries. I suppose I and many others are like this, in that way. But, you took something, that is not replaceable. The innocence of children, and the lives of people. For that, you should be tortured, sexually, and then killed on national TV like they do, in some countries. He should have been executed at 16 for raping that 14 year old kid. Would have saved a lot of money and prevented a lot of suffering.

It is not odd to me when people feel sorry for someone like Duncan, I feel sorry for him (in a way). It is very odd to me when people feel so sorry for him that they forget the victims and want to protect the guilty! I don’t believe that he should be tortured and killed, just killed. Quickly, decisively. If this had happened 100 years ago, he would have found his way to the gallows by now. Sometimes I wonder if we’re really are progressing??? I have to admit, had it been MY family, he WOULD be dead by now.

Jojo–No, you’re not crazy for being curious about Duncan. I’m curious about a lot of these people. What drives them to do what they do? What makes them so different from “normal” people? Thing is, as curious as I am, I’m ticked off too. What gave him the right to terrorize this family? What gave him the right to frighten entire communities? Nobody has the right to do what he has done in his life. His blog states that his mom is crying because of the way her son turned out. He talks about being raped as a child. I’m sorry as heck that he was raped. I really am. But give me a break. I was raped too. Last time I checked, I have no desire to do the same thing to someone else. But that’s just me. I think sometimes people just want to hurt everyone around them.

It is really nice that everyone is putting messages directed to joe on this blog, however, he is in jail and I am sure that he does not have access to a computer let alone the internet to read them…….duh…..

This is my take on sex offenders. I would love to take one of them for about a month. I would take one fingernail off per day with a pair of plyers. Then I would take a toenail off per day. Then I would take his ass out and bury him up to his neck in the hot sun and when he got thristy, I would give him salt. Then I would take a cigarette and burn holes all over his body. And finally I would take him to an abandoned shack and nail his dick to the floor and give him a knife, and then set the shack on fire. And if he walked away, he would walk away without his dick.

I work in psychiatry-this is fascinating. He deserves the death penalty. If you look into his eyes you can see true eavil-just like Charlie Manson. By the way- there is a big difference between a sexual offender and a sexual predator. An offender is usually a first time offender with a much lessor degree of contact with the victim ie possession of child pornography. A predator has a history and has usually molested or raped the victim. The media needs to get this straight. One has a chance at rehabilitation-the other does not

excuse me! sexual offender or sexual predator they should all be locked away for life. There is no chance of them getting better they are sick people that cannot be cured. People like you are the the ones who make the mistake of saying they are all better and let them loose back into society were they altimatly do it again.

I read Duncan’s blog through a link on MSNBC and I noticed that he got really aggitated as soon as people started talking to him through his blog and making comments and calling him names. I remember he was writing a lot about friends, college, work and then as soon as people started writing to him he got weird.

I have two level III sex offenders living within a mile from my house and one lives four blocks from my 9 year old sons elementary school. When I received the notice about the sex offender I went to the meeting regarding them and the first thing the cops, parol officers, school officials etc. (panel of speakers) told us is to not harrass these guys. If you harrass them they will only get worse which can make them start to want to offend again. I DON’T THINK that they should even be allowed to live within the community but they are and as of right now there is not a whole lot being done about it. SO, I AGREE WITH the police that we need to leave these guys alone. Watch your backs and watch them from afar but don’t harrass them or get in their face or tease or torment or call names. We were told what street these guys live on, the make, model and color of their vehicles and the license plate numbers and where they work. The one guy likes to ride his bike alot. If they are seen near kids we are suppose to call police immediately and they are BANNED from using the internet. We are suppose to receive any updated information such as photos, a change of address and the police are suppose to visit them frequently. We of course, know what they look like the police always give you a picture. If you call the police (in my state) they are suppose to give you this information if you ask and some of it is on the internet. These guys are a time bomb waiting to go off, just leave them alone for now. I watch my own child like a hawk and I don’t hesitate to tell him all about these guys, I don’t show him pictures of just one of them because then he will think that they all look a certain way, I show him all of them on my state website. Just leave these guys alone and let the right people figure out how to handle them and call your state legislators to give your opinion don’t talk to the offenders.

This guy needs serious help. What makes him the way he is and how do we prevent it from happening to others? What a tragedy.

Fuck Duncan for doing what he did to this innocent family. Right, so he was raped when he was a dayem kid. Who knows, he probably went looking for people on the streets to rape his sorry ass. Even if, he had no right to do what he did to that family and those 2 kids. And I hate it when people feel sorry for these kind of people. It’s people like Duncan that ruin our society and our communities. People like Duncan should rot in jail slowly and painfully. I’m sorry, but I was raised in a bad family, I was abused as a child, I cried my way through life, but I’m not blaming or hurting anyone for what happend to me. Duncan should be punished and not ever be forgiven for what he did. I have no pity for bad asses like Duncan. There are no second chances in my book!!!

What is very sad is I work with a level 3 sex offender. My employer doesn’t seem to mind that he has access to names, addresses and whether those family’s have children. Because he is an excellent worker. Does thing for the office no one else does for next to nothing.

If you didn’t know you would think he is the nicest strange character you ever met, yet he was charged for molesting young children he cared for, met via his church!
