The ‘tragedy” Obama was talking about was that the Civil Rights movement had put so much effort into a judicial strategy, rather than a legislative strategy.

He’s just being like his hero Rush Limbaugh, who distorted Obama’s remarks on the constitution re: slavery but cutting out the parts that were about slavery.

But also he was talking to another law professor about the legal concept of redistribution, not the progressive income tax. I think Slate laid it all out. Really facts always seem to get in the way.

One of the stranger things about Americans is they find the idea of “wealth redistribution” completely disgusting, and yet it would benefit 95% of them. But they all think they’re above average.

What IS wealth redistribution is starting a war and paying billions of dollars to Haliburton executives on no-bid contracts.

I would like to quote John Hodgman (yes that John Hodgman) from an A.V. Club interview. I feel it is apropos of this situation.

“Do I think that his candidacy is historic? Sure, that’s exciting too, but what I think it’s really amazing that he exists in the same world that I also inhabit and no other political candidate lives in that world right now. They live in a made-up world that is not reality. I think that that’s why you see Obama surging right now. It’s that the people like the fact that Obama lives in the world that they live in.”

Also, part of that last sentence was redundant.

In the end we vote and deserve what we get. Right now a large majority of the people want a change and they should have it. I am no longer voting for McCain due to his VP pick but moderation is the key to success. To much of anything breeds oppression whether it comes from the left or the right wing. Both extremes have provided nothing in the way of solutions to problems or a direction to follow. Both parties will screw you over eventually that is why culling the herd through elections is a good thing.

The best part, is that they’ve gotten so hysterical and ridiculous that most Dems can pretty much laugh this shit off.

Take Obama today, pushing back on the “socialist” attacks:

I tweeted this, but just left Costco and some moron in business attire was walking around with a huge, hot pink button that read SOCIALISM SUCKS. He kept starring at people and you could tell he just wanted somebody to ask him about it. That’s the kind of crap I’m tired of…

I hope that fellow left a $50 bill on the nightstand for SOCIALISM before he left.

I was watching CSPAN and, instead of Prime Minister Questions, they aired the British Conservatives’ conference. I noted how the Leader of the Opposition talked about poor people, discussed global warming and how it can be reversed (without questioning the legitimacy of global warming) and praised/offered reforms for their evil socialist communist national healthcare system, so that it functioned better.

Also, there were a ton of minorities in the audience and they weren’t strategically placed there.

I quite liked the conservatives in the UK and I was struck by the fact that our conservatives sound like fucking idiots. We need to import some British conservatives!

After chatting with someone familiar with UK politics, I’m sure I’d still be on Team Liberal but at least we could be spared from a lot of the stupid shit we’ve had to listen to for the past 8 years and during Election ‘08.
