It’s really fun to read that White House press release in your internal George W. Bush voice. Particularly a great line like “America’s friendships with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden are strong, and Nordic Americans have added to our rich cultural diversity and proud ancestry.” Imagine the halting pauses!

Here’s a nice little writeup on Icelandic immigration from the Library of Congress’ website.

I had Icelandic roommates in college. They’d get drunk and sing this one song over and over. I thought it was the national anthem, but after several months, learned it was about a cow.

What, a national anthem can’t be about cows?

What’s the Wisconsin state anthem about?

We should figure out a way to make the Suburbs “Cows” the Wisconsin state song.

oohh! And have to BoDeans do a cover…

Here it is. Now someone do something with those lyrics; they are no fun at all.

Oh god, I clicked on “Listen to MIDI” on that page and some awful, awful music started and I couldn’t close my music player. I had to force it to close. If that is the music to the state song, no wonder that state produced Ed Gien and the like.

Oh Wisconsin, land of holsteins, you are livestock that are domesticated ungulates, with your stomach of four compartmants, you are not indiginous to the United States.

Land of bisons, cheese and Brewers, land of warmth and winter snows, land of cows and cheese and more cows, Oh Wisconsin, I love you so.

Bunny to the rescue. Yea!

I hope you appreciate that I did that on the Jewish high holiday, when properly I should be begging God to spare my life for one more year.

If God hasn’t made with the smiting by now, Max, it ain’t gonna happen.

Well how long is that begging supposed to take? All DAY?

Sundown to sundown, Jane.

us jews jane we can beg like nobody’s business.

we also shame, guilt and nag quite effectively.

You guys nosh better than anyone I know. And kvetch…

Max, your lyrics work pretty well if sung to the tune of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

Oh ryanl, I beg to differ. No one can guilt like an Irish Catholic mum.

Off to Sweeney’s. To nosh and kvetch.

I’m 30 years old and have been out of college in the workforce for 8 years….my mom still tells me weekly that I would have made a great lawyer….WEEKLY!
