See, now, I actually think this news is none of our business. If Edwards had been a sitting senator or has been nominated for Obama’s VP, then it should have been made public. But as of now, he’s just a private citizen who’s private affairs should not be newsworthy, IMHO.

maz…in terms of things being newsworthy, there’s no longer any “should have” type of discretion left to reporters and editors. for better or worse, it gets put out there, and either is newsworthy or isn’t. the consequences of reporting are no longer considered, because if I don’t break the story, somebody smaller will.

Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter.

To me it’s not really newsworthy because when it comes to politicians, I’m always waiting for the shoe to drop. Even the seemingly good ones. They all manage to disappoint so often anyway. Ooh, another scandal involving a politician. Surprise!

First, swannie and rat, neither Obama nor his campaign have anything to do with the hand sign, so there’s nothing to criticize him about there.

Second, if you were really sincerely interested in what he hopes to accomplish, you could pay a visit to his website, and under the issues tab, he has links to white papers for a whole host of issues: civil rights, energy, disabilities, defense, foreign policy, immigration, economy, etc. He’s also given speeches on several of those issues that go into more depth than the stump speech (Philadelphia: Race, Foreign Policy on Jul 16th). Stump speeches aren’t the place to lay out detailed plans. Nor is the evening news really the place to look for in depth details. It does actually take a little bit of effort to educate yourself, but the information IS there.
