because there’s not enough parking on side-streets around university ave through st paul.

jesus christ, if people can’t park an extra 50-100ft away and walk, they should drive out to the suburbs and circle like vultures in a parking lot for that spot right next to the front door of the business they’re going to, even if it takes half an hour for someone to leave. there’s already way too much street space dedicated to parking in the cities proper. we need more transit and less street parking.

A last-minute dinner plan prevented me from attending Bloginar. :( Looked like fun and I would’ve enjoyed meeting everyone. Next time!

also, with the economy collapsing, mortage crises and bank failures, high fuel prices, government budget shortfalls and all that jazz …

let’s think of more ways to blow taxpayer money on a stadium for rich assholes! because, you know, that’s exactly what will fix everything going wrong right now. more taxpayer-funded extravagance for rich sports team owners to make money off of.

mortgage even
I don’t have one, who cares how to spell it!

I’m sure it’s just me, but Jason looks a lot like Teller in that picture.

mjm- THAT’S who he reminded me of! Jeeze, it’s been bugging me all morning.

That story on the Vikings stadium is a bit confusing. Are they proposing to build it on the same site as the Dome? If so, where would the Vikings play during construction?

probably at the U’s new publicly-funded stadium.

which, btw, was built right in the way of the central corridor’s planned tunnel, leading to the cancellation of the tunnel, which then prompted the U to throw a hissy fit that it wasn’t going to be in a tunnel anymore (even though it was their fault)

Alie, I’m just happy that I’m not the only one who saw that.

Falling Down 2: Wayne’s Urban Bike Adventure.

That tunnel was never going to happen anyway: $$$, and it made too much sense.

god wayne, you act like a little girl sometimes. Not everyone who goes to a football game is a rich asshole. many families go together to watch football. While I don’t agree with taxpayers having to cover all the costs of things like this, your elitist stereotypes are irritating.

I don’t bitch about funding public transportation, which i rarely use,, so why bitch about funding things that may help the local economy stay energized?

There’s a difference between the U stadium and the twins/vikings stuff too.

The U being a public institution, it is appropriate for public money to be involved.

Not that there is no room to discuss priorities.

yea, you’d wish that the team leasing the stadium should pay some of the construction costs, but to be realistic, the city owns the stadium, and leases it to a team. The vikings could leave MN, and someone else can lease the stadium. So rich team owners do make money off of the stadium, but the team is really just leasing property like any other business does. And since the city runs on our money, how else can it be done?

And yeah, with our crappy schools and an entire part of the city going to hell in a handbasket, you could certainly make a vald argument about priorities, that is for sure.

in the case of the U, I question their priorities.

in the case of the twins, hennepin county got raped to give a handout to a rich rich man. it isn’t about the people who will go see sporting events, it’s about how much money that rich fuckwit got handed to him. ditto for the coming circus that will be the vikings stadium.

because really, with the economy ailing we should definitely be spending tax dollars on a bread&circus, right?

well this might make sense if it was a good deal for anyone but the team owners.

however, in this case the county (or next time hopefully the state) puts a ton of money in and gets a pittance back. it’s such a poor investment no private firm would ever undertake it. why would you invest in something that someone else sees all the profits from?
