I agree. The Yankees are boringly predictable.
This is why the Twins are the Twins and the Yankees are the Yankees. Let's see, should we go for Hardy or Teixera? Hmmm.

Just about every time we went to a game at the dome, you'd hear "fans" (quote marks emphasized) trashing GoGo loudly, which made me want to stand ...

Considering how many people escape or just walk away from St. Peter, this cannot possibly end well.
7:20 pm
I’ve only visited St Peter to do stuff at St Gus, but thought it was a quaint little town.
7:24 pm
I was down there for camp back in the day. It is quaint. When I say St. Peter I meant the hospital.
(Not sure if you were making a joke or not)
7:37 pm
I’m not positive, but I thought they were downsizing St. Peter to expand Moose Lake. And DHS needs to cut $$$, so no one should be too surprised, even though it really sucks. It has to be cut somewhere.
7:48 pm
I work there. I don’t know all of the ramifications because I spend all my days in an office but I do know that at least one of my friends lost her job.
7:53 pm
Well, I hope that they’re at least able to offer the ppl they layoff a position somewhere else but there can’t really be that much nearby is there?
Ugh.
7:56 pm
They are union and get full bumping rights, but would probably mean they would have to move to Moose Lake. The layoffs would also have been based on seniority.
DHS has down A LOT of downsizing at the Regional Treatment Centers. Much of the treatment has moved out of the hospital setting and into small group home settings.

Am I the only one getting tired of these give, or you’re in danger scenerios? Coffee is for closers.

mason – I’m not tired of it. It takes money to keep the trains running on time.
Dig the GGR reference though.

hmm, my lil sis is a St. Peter security officer — I better give her a call to see if she still has a job.

For one, the “story” is whoafully inadequate. There’s next to no information outside of the quasi-cut&pasted:
Audra Waylett, a security counselor, says its hard to keep the nearby community safe from dangerous patients when theres fewer staff. “Keeping workers and the public safe is our top priority, she says. We live in St. Peter and Mankato, and we want to protect our community from our dangerous patients. We also deserve to work a safe shift and return home to our families who count on us.
“Frontline workers know how to reduce costs without compromising safety, but no one asked us,” says Chuck Carlson, president of AFSCME Local 404. “A bureaucrat in St. Paul shouldn’t decide what’s safe for St. Peter.”
At a 2:30 p.m. news conference on Wednesday, discussion topics include layoff letters that workers received, the communication between workers and management, and concerns about worker safety and public safety.
Very Pavlovian!
GGR is one of the best though.

You have a point about the fear mongering. Keep in mind that the story was written for TV. I bet the promos for the story were great: “Mad men running in the streets of St. Peter? That’s what the Department of Human Services is proposing.”

Is it Sweeps Week?

I went to Gustavus and it sucked when a patient escaped … the campus went on lock down. Being on lock down was fine, but it was nerve wracking knowing a patient was on the loose next to campus. Generally speaking, the ones that escaped while I was there were in for sexual offenses.
10:38 am
They’d have to be clutching their heads, of course!
7:49 pm
I go to Gustavus and yes, it sucks when people escape from the hospital there. Though it’s not as big a deal as people make it seem. By the time the person has escaped, emails, text messages, and prerecorded voicemail have been sent to every student and community member, so everyone knows about it. Unless youre a total moron, you aren’t wandering the streets of saint peter alone during a breakout anyway. And need I remind you, even though Saint Peter is small, hwy 169 runs right through the town, and there’s a fair amount of traffic throughout…
My normal response when I get an email about a sex offender escaping: “Oh…k, on to class…”
9:31 pm
Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think people would need to worry about their personal safety during a breakout. Why would someone bust out just to go on a wild and crazy sexual assault rampage near the place they just broke out of? Wouldn’t it make more sense to just get out and try to hide and get back to wherever they can from?

Well, I went to Gustavus before everyone had a computer, the beginning of email and before anyone had a cell phone. So it took a lot longer to get the word out.

You are kidding right? They are sexual predators! As a female college student it was very nerve-wracking when break-outs happened.
