“Mr. Neulan talked a lot about God’s word,” Weyhrauch said. “He said, ‘ElVera, don’t believe a man by his word, believe a man for his works.’ Then he showed me a picture of an orphanage he was building in Russia. I felt very secure.”
The 76-year-old Ham Lake woman gave Neulan, a self-styled apostle, $40,000 of her savings. A short time later, she gave him $100,000 more.

You’d think the saying “Jesus saves” would encourage more people to hold on to their money.

I don’t know…a bunch of greedy people thought they would get a 7% monthly return on their investment and got taken because a guy said God a bunch.
At that 7% rate you could keep a flat ponzi scheme going for 14 months without even bringing in new people just paying the interest back from their original investment. By tempting all the coworkers that are seeing a 7% monthly return every month for a year you could bring in more money and then stiff everyone while you relax in your tax free, no extradition pacific kingdom.
