That’s what made reading MAD magazine so subversive back in the day. It had a direct link (via William Gaines) to the EC Comics backlash that had resulted in the creation of the Comics Code Authority.

The CCA, of course, saved the world from all of the juvenile delinquency, war, corruption, hunger, bigotry and religious persecution that resulted from America’s youth being poisoned and brainwashed by the horrors published by EC Comics.
