the brave little toaster II: when toasting becomes too much

Sad story. I was just thinking of Brave Little T. after seeing Wall-E (I told my wife, “I liked it, but I couldn’t cry because ultimately I didn’t care if the iPod married the Brave Little Toaster.”)

I got nothin’ against gallows humor when an appropriate amount of time has passed and/or it’s funny. Wayne fails at both.

hey, I loved the brave little toaster.

and I can’t wait for the sequel where he plugs himself into a european 230V outlet because toasting has lost its charm, and he’s not good at anything else

I generally hate Sci-fi, but have actually read a few of his things including Toaster. Very sad when someone feels that is their only way out. Hope he is at peace.

I may not have cried at the end of Wall-E, but I *did* cry at the end of The Brave Little Toaster. It was an unexpectedly touching story.

Here’s Mr. Disch’s own LiveJournal…the last entries are a little eerie.

Apparently he didn’t get much from Disney for the movies. I remember reading some of his science fiction when I was a lot younger. The circumstances of the end of his life sound difficult.

Earlier Wayne mentioned he didn’t bring his bike with him today, so I’m guessing he’s suffering from the withdrawal of not rubbing his nads on a bicycle within the past few hours.

you have no idea the pain I suffer
