how/why is registration going to prevent "trolling"?

Two important ways:

1. It will eliminate drive-by, anonymous personal attacks;
2. I someone really misbehaves, I can delete their account. They can, of course, reregister if they like, but people who are just in it for the trolling generally aren't looking to go through a lengthy process just so they can make a few asinine statements.

Also, having to post under a persistent persona tends to create more accountability in the poster.

Jeez you took that [7 lb. can of pudding] down pretty fast. That would have lasted me at least 6 months. Did you bother putting it in bowls or just spoon it straight from the can?
