This is Back To The 50’s weekend at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, and already the Twin Cities’s streets are filled with some chopped, chromed and toasted dream cars from America’s past. Okay, maybe car shows are not your bag — what do you want to talk about, MNspeakers?

about damn time. I’ve got a load of silliness to drop off and no where to do it.
9:43 am
Does anybody know where you can rent a speed boat on lake Minnetonka? All I can find are tiny metal fishing boats and pontoons.
9:43 am
Phew! It was going to be quite a challenge to plan b’fast over on the bike haiku thread!
So yeah, Blackbird, at 50th & Bryant Ave South for breakfast on Sunday at 10:00 am. Who is in? MB? Cat? Teucer? Bix? Alie? Doug(nuts)?
They don’t take reservations, so no worries about making and breaking them.
9:44 am
Also, has anybody been to the new restaurant Agri on Bryant yet? If so, was it tasty?
9:45 am
So far, I’m in. However, there is a big evolution conference going on at the U this weekend. I’m on call for technical support. Hopefully, we have everything covered, but who knows.
9:48 am
Here is the link for those so inclined.
9:51 am
There are a number of places that rent pontoon boats of various sizes, tara, but that’s all I see.
9:52 am
Had to hold back over on the Baiku thread….I almost toasted a hipster on Lagoon by Lunds last night.
Doofus on a cruiser with a basket wearing straw hat. Blew right through a red light and half way into Lagoon before he looked up and hit the brakes.
What an asshat.
9:54 am
Well, that explains all the geriatrics in giant old cars I’ve eben seeing all morning.
It’s nice to see you giving a shout out to such earth destroying non-ethanol burning vehicles Bob. I can’t wait for your Minnesota Chain-Smokers Convention open thread.
9:54 am
On Sunday afternoon, we are going to see the final performance of this.
So yes, the game will be afoot.
9:57 am
No wonder I saw all those old cars in the parking lot this morning.
9:58 am
The car show means — don’t even think about driving through Falcon Heights and Roseville on Snelling this weekend!
9:59 am
I saw one old timer drinking a beer while riding in the passenger seat of a cool old car on Hwy 36 this morning.
9:59 am
Jane- what time? I’m possibly in. Maybe even able to drag Mr. mb along…
10:00 am
Jane: I was thinking the same thing – how the hell are we going to communicate brunch plans through haiku’s?
I will be there. I will be there. I will be there.
10:00 am
Thanks, Bob. That’s all I’ve found too.
10:01 am
I’m in for breakfast, for sure.
10:03 am
10 a.m. on a Sunday morning. Jesus. I knew you people were freaky, but that’s just taking things too far.
10:08 am
I can’t wait for your Minnesota Chain-Smokers Convention open thread.
Hey, I already topped that, cool cat. Besides, Mrs. Lungs and I loves the old cars. Used to own a ‘65 Mustang hardtop myself.
God, what a great car.
10:09 am
rich, it’s not like you’ll have to skip out on meet the press to make it there. sigh.
oh, and I’m SUPER PISSED at the people at work who keep dropping stuff on my desk today. Don’t they know I want to leave at 12?????
10:10 am
Related to the Target thread earlier this week…
I complained that Target has never even once responded to one of my job inquiries. Well, I found a great reference from a Target employee (which I really, really appreciate) and I got a Thank you for applying, we are looking at your stuff email. Which is awesome. I guess you really do need to have a “team member” help you out. So I’m not mad at Target anymore.
10:11 am
Eeek. I can’t fathom why anybody would want to work at Target. That was my least favorite job of my adult career.
10:11 am
The 65 mustang must have been a great car, 43 years on and you still see lots of them on the road…
10:14 am
Pwrgeek: Of course they know. That’s why they’re dropping it on you today.
10:14 am
Some pretty pics of the hot rods, info links and the like from Gordy’s Garage (part of Jason’s Station).
10:19 am
oops. I see the time now. I’m a possibly.
I have a bachelorette party on Saturday so I’m not sure what shape I’ll be in. I wish I had a bike Jane as I would totally pedal with you!
10:22 am
Tru dat, douglas. Plus, they were mass produced and affordable.
A Ford Mustang even makes a cameo appearance in Goldfinger, alongside Bond’s Auton Martin. Enjoy the video.
10:26 am
I’ll probably be up for brunch…
10:27 am
Going on vacation next week. Wanted to get something other than the standard rental car. Considered the Prius (’cause I want to be greener). Ended up reserving a Mustang. Sorry Bob. But it sounds like you understand.
10:35 am
Gordy rocks.
So, I missed the bus this morning. Then I missed the second bus. But it was sooooooo worth it.
10:35 am
You can have power AND use a greener fuel, miller. Leno does. Leno goes fast on biodiesel, too.
And say, who said electric cars can’t be cool?
10:37 am
My friend’s neice is moving to Austin, TX in August so I get to drive her mustang convertible to TX – freakin’ awesomely awesome.
10:42 am
Just look out for silver Aston Martins, Catz.
10:43 am
And say, who said electric cars can’t be cool?
And if you keep watching the video, you can see the incredibly phallic “Dragon” space capsule.
10:51 am
Bob: I don’t get it.
10:53 am
Watch and learn, kitty.
Aston Martins just hates Mustangs!
10:59 am
Wow, that Mustang looks like a blocky piece of garbage alongside that Aston Martin. Why does America suck at designing cars?
11:05 am
To be fair, just about anything looks blocky compared to a vintage DB5.
11:08 am
Can we talk about how kids these days have lost their damn minds?
11:14 am
As far as Bixby’s article goes, if you want someone to love you unconditionally, you should get a dog.
11:15 am
I would like to go on record as saying I have never been to MA. But perhaps I should plan my next vacation there… Abstinence only education works wonders!!!
11:19 am
As far as Bixby’s article goes, if you want someone to love you unconditionally, you should get a dog.
Or call your mom. God knows she doesn’t say no to anyone.
11:20 am
Bob, I love the old Mustangs, but if I were to get a car from the 60’s it’d be an old Cadillac.
11:23 am
A friend of mine just bought one of these:
(1974 Volkswagen Karmen Ghia convertible) His needs some work though…
11:24 am
Oh, I really like the look of that car Dougnuts. Momma likes…
11:26 am
It is time for the Baconrati to quit monopolizing both breakfast and the pig itself.
I hearby move that this Sunday usher in a new day…a day in which sausage rightfully takes its place amongst our pankcakes and hashbrowns. This weekend let us prove with our own actions that we the brave men and women of Mnspeak embrace the sausage as bacons equal amongst breakfast meats…
Breakfast meat equality for All!
11:28 am
Karmen Ghias are nice looking cars. Does that one have the heating conversion kit?
11:28 am
Well, RL is officially un-invited to breakfast. You’re lucky I don’t slap your dirty mouth with a slab of back bacon.
11:29 am
Thanks Bob – not a James Bond fan so I missed the reference… did I say that out loud?
I read another article about the pact the girls made. Sad really. That these girls think that having a baby pact will solve their problems.
And good lord, can we stop blaming movies and vid games and music for why people are screwed up?
11:29 am
MB has been a littly punchy lately.
11:31 am
My friends Karmen Ghia was not in working order, so he is not quite sure what he has got. I’m going over to take a peak tonight.
11:32 am
Very cool indead. Still, I can never look at those old VWs without thinking of the character Carmen Ghia, from the original Mel Brooks film “The Producers.”
“We’re not alone!”
11:32 am
MB its just that kind of divisiveness that will keep our breakfast meats of the plate. We need to come together as pork eating breakfasters, not stand apart lest our spot on the table be replaced with….dare I say it….fresh fruit!
Sausage a meat we can believe in!
Vote Sausage 08
11:34 am
BTW I cannot believe I have gotten this far without a phallic joke or a “thats what she said” come on guys….stay on top of your game.
11:35 am
Together we feast. Divided we starve.
11:37 am
Lotta nonsense on this thread today.
11:38 am
Lotta nonsense on most threads everyday, Rat.
11:40 am
There is nothing to fear but fear itself — and turkey bacon! (Don’t forget oatmeal!)
11:40 am
Nonsense. Pretty cars. Bacon.
It all works for me.
11:44 am
If bacons so great….how come it doesn’t have a gravy yet?
11:46 am
RL: Bacon is a preference, but sausage is always welcome.
Gravy is not needed to hide the awesomeness of bacon as it is better naked.
11:47 am
Let’s make a Teucer’s-mom-pact, where we can all have her together!
I enjoyed watching the interviews on TV with the kids from Gloucester. Their Masshole accents were the bestest.
11:50 am
@RL: Bacon gravy.
11:51 am
yeah I saw that but thats just plain old nonsense. Thats not a gravy thats just greasy milk.
11:54 am
Yankee snob. I’ll bet you live in a fancy double-wide up on the hill, just Lordin’ on us po’ folks!
12:07 pm
Hey Bob, we put our cars on concrete blocks one at a time, just like you.
12:22 pm
Lotta nonsense on most threads everyday, Rat.
12:26 pm
You can say that again Tara.
1:01 pm
Sorry…computer user error.
1:14 pm
RL: like many, I think bacon is superior to sausage. I admit I did have some chorizo added to an omelet last weekend and it was excellent! And you make a good point about gravy.
Oddly, ham is to me the most repugnant of the standard meats. GROSS. So weird that it all comes from the same magical animal.
MB, you gotta get a bike. I suppose there is some way of rigging up a trailer and I could give you and Mr MB a ride. That would be fun! And extraordinarily difficult.
1:16 pm
Jane, I feel the same about ham. Ish
I could just ride on your handle bars…
1:26 pm
There is a difference between ham and good ham. Apparently, you two have never had good ham. Bone in hamlishesness.
Homer-”Butter up that bacon boy.”
Bart-”But dad, my heart hurts!”
Homer-”Do it…! Now bacon up that sausage.”
1:28 pm
Pinchy would have wanted it this way… Pass the butter.
Ham is too chewy for me. Yuck. Now a nice fat pork chop… mmm
1:30 pm
“like many, I think bacon is superior to sausage.”
I should have seen it earlier… Jane-my fellow SLPer you are a “bacon supremacist”.
Put down the applewood, extinguish the smoker and embrace the sausage.
Sausage a meat we can believe in!
1:32 pm
Sausage a meat we can believe in!
Mmmmmm. Please, make me a believer.
1:33 pm
Yay Larry Craig!!!
RL, I’m gonna tp your house in bacon.
1:34 pm
Oddly, ham is to me the most repugnant of the standard meats.
Oh no, ham can be transcendant. It can also be irridescent and plasticky. I think of ham as the meat which most readily shows the influence of the maker/artisan/manufacturer. If you’ve ever had Jamon Iberico, Prosciutto di Parma, or real ‘merican Country Ham, you would not speak ill of ham.
1:35 pm
I have a friend in the agriculture business, mostly he sells his product to pork producers. He would love this conversation! In any event, because of him we created a sandwich.
Boneless Pork Loin wrapped in bacon with ham and 3 types of cheese on a bun.
Now, if you deep fat fry that and serve it on a stick, you have a new State Fair sensation on your hands!
1:40 pm
Jeez, dougnuts. My arteries just burst and there’s blood all over my floor.
1:42 pm
are you sure it isn’t ham gravy cat?
1:42 pm
RL, I’m gonna tp your house in bacon.
be careful…you could do the wrong house and start a religious uprising.
If you found mine however I would fire up the scrambled eggs and we would have brunch….I am a Jew for Pork.
We are like Jews for Jesus except for we don’t believe in the new testament and all that silly stuff about that fella that supposedly walked on water.
1:45 pm
RL lives in The Park too? It’s like a MNspeak ghetto.
1:52 pm
Proscuitto, yeah! Love it. It’s the regular old ham that I loathe. Ugh, it’s the texture mostly. Yuck.
1:56 pm
Speaking of pork: me & Guido are Fun Pigs! (see lower left hand photo)
2:06 pm
Ham is so varied in flavors, cures, texture, smoke moisture etc. that I say about ham what other people say about beer: You just haven’t found ‘your’ ham.
2:06 pm
Crispy bacon and sausage patties are as far as I go with pork meat.
Some lines are best left uncrossed. .
2:09 pm
Kevin I worry about you.
Proscuitto is a fancy man’s ham. One that I am only too glad to eat up. I did get a little porked out in Italy though last summer.
2:12 pm
I am worried about Kevin too. With his trepidations about the pig, he might have to give up any claim to Iowa.
2:13 pm
I did get a little porked out in Italy though last summer.
That’s what she said!
2:33 pm
ladies and gentlemen…we have a winner…after holding out for roughly 5 hours DouglasG was no longer able to contain himself
At approximately 2:13pm he dropped the ubiquitous “Thats what she said” it was an inspiring moment. The timing impeccable, the delivery-flawless.
2:37 pm
That was what she said, actually.
2:39 pm
thats what made it all the more sweet….
2:41 pm
i love you teucer. hugs and kisses?
2:42 pm
Her?
2:44 pm
Oh, alright then. Just promise not to cover me in girl cooties.
3:19 pm
RL, I love sausage…but then again, what girl doesn’t?
3:36 pm
RL, I love sausage…but then again, what girl doesn’t?
Ellen?
3:44 pm
I did get a little porked out in Italy though last summer.
That’s what she said!
Oh man, that was great. You really knocked that one out of the park. +10 for you!
RL, I love sausage…but then again, what girl doesn’t?
Ellen?
You mean
Ellen Feis?
2:11 am
Really?? The open thread died at 3:44? Oh the sadness.
6:29 am
The hot rod open thread wanted to get home before the rain started.
2:27 pm
@mb – Baikus killed the open thread.
@teucer – Did I see you walking into the Uptown Lund’s at about 12:30 today? If so, sorry that I didn’t introduce myself. We were struggling to get the kids back into the baby jogger at the time. They were not cooperative.
12:43 am
Oh my gosh, George Carlin is dead.
12:46 am
I just heard that too, and am shocked by it.
1:30 am
That sucks. CNN didn’t even do a breaking news Twitter or anything and only now has their story up.
7:49 am
7 Things we Can Say on MNSpeak about George Carlin:
1) He was funny
2) He was the original “Weather Dude“
3) He was in a Doris Day movie!?!
4) He was on “The Tonight Show” 130 times
5) He died before he got his Mark Twain Award for humor — I think he would have found that funny
6) Many MNspeakers are likely thinking “Carlin who?” Their loss.
7) RIP, George.
8:12 am
I heard this on the news this morning, RIP you funny motherfucker!
8:14 am
Shit! Piss! Fuck! Cunt! Cocksucker! Motherfucker! Tits!
8:17 am
Amerca’s going to lose the war, if you keep using those words.
8:23 am
awww, I <3 funny angry old men.
it’s a shame dennis tester is so completely unfunny.
but hey, bob saget is getting old!
9:36 am
Coning home from the cabin last night on 94, I saw a dozen or more of the hot rod cars heading homeward.
