My fiance and I are getting married in October of this year, then we’re moving to Minnesota (from Ontario Canada). He’s got a pretty solid shot at transferring to Winona so that very well might be where we end up.
Basically, we’re looking for a good community with good neighbors which we can settle into. Chances are we’ll buy a house eventually and have children – so it’s pretty important that we find somewhere safe, with good values, and people. And my fiance loves boating and hiking. The outdoors is fairly important to us.
Can any one make any suggestions? Is Winona a good place to start a family? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Even suggestions other then Winona!

Winona is very nice. Just don’t buy a place too close to the river or some of those streams. Southeastern Minnesota as had a lot of bad luck with flooding in some areas the last few years. Just be careful where you look for a place. There are a lot of streams for trout fishing, not too far away.
