I think there was something about tea, too, but I don't understand what sitting around sipping the stuff and eating crumpets really did for america other than make us look like sissies for a while.

Hey, this event may help shape American history -- what historical event ever happened in Boston?!?

Well we annexed Hawaii from there, thus making honeymoons moderately cheaper for Americans everywhere.

The originals were fiberglass, but we also have permanent bronzes. For confirmation of this fact, there is no better source than the Salt Lake City Deseret News.
Does Boston have bronze "Peanuts" figures in ITS parks? No? Case closed.

I thought they were made of some kind of plastic.

You make my point for me, Wayno. Boston just ain't a good place to hold this sort of event. Now, I'll grant you that MSP has some serious transit issues, but I think it'll weather the storm slightly better, especially being in Saint Paul, than Boston did.

And certainly more profitably.

it's a bit of a change. I hadn't planned to leave for a while anyway, and now maybe I'll stick around if possible.

(ps, before you even start in, no, I will not "go back to boston," because I quite enjoy living here ...

Wasn't it not too long ago, that you were saying you were out of here as soon as you put in enough chits to move on up in the corporate world (or on to grad school)?

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem if you've decided that this would be a fine place to make your home, I'm just asking if this isn't a change in position/attitude.

hi, I have to jump in here in boston's defense (kinda)

well, actually, rather than being poorly-planned, large portions of the city simply weren't planned. Notable exceptions are back bay and other landfill areas of town (as well as its lovely park system). Really, though, the downtown area where the convention was held is a giant hodge-podge with so many layers of development/infrastructure built on top of one another that of course it looks like a mess.

but a beautiful mess!

besides, we don't even need a national political convention to bring the TC metro area all sorts of transportation woes. we have a cruddy underfunded public transit system, I'm pretty sure almost every part of 35W through the metro is under some sort of construction right now (not to mention a lot of stuff going on on 35E and other highways lately), and, well, traffic doesn't even flow that well without the construction.
(ps, before you even start in, no, I will not "go back to boston," because I quite enjoy living here and want to help improve things--but the first stage of that is identifying problems and bitching about them until everyone is pissed enough to force the government to spend some money).
