It’s always been pretty rare to find fine arts criticism in TC publications, and, with budgets getting slashed, the amount of fine arts coverage is dwindling even further. The Rake assembles a team of critics and artists to fill in the gap.

If I may ask for a temporary self-promotional pass, I just have to say I am proud of the fact that the first Thousandth Word post (by humble me) is currently the most popular post of the day on the Rakemag site–ahead of the post about “Lolita” and of two posts about sex. This won’t last, of course, but today at least my faith in humanity is kinda restored. Thanks to all of you who’ve clicked in. Be excited–there’s much much more visual art coverage to come!

Art critic might be a fun job for awhile. Wonder how you get it.

I had to beat the ghost of Clement Greenberg in a game of “Pictionary.” Which I cheated at, actually. Shhh! Don’t tell anyone!
2:49 pm
Really Andy? You beat Greenberg?! And I hear he’s got mad game too!
Nice job!
Just for clarification, how does one cheat at Pictionary?
3:18 pm
Yeah, well, Greenberg talked a big game, but he folded like Christo at a deinstall.

Really, he melted like one of Dali’s clocks?
He cracked like one of Duchamp’s panes of glass?
He flopped like Baudelaire’s haircut?…
Ok, I’ll stop there.

You better, lest you repeat yourself like one of Warhol’s soup cans.

As an artist, I’m happy to see something like this being created. It feels long overdue.
