Disturbing. Is this a common number of sexual assaults, or is this now some sort of spree? None of the articles have really said.

For the love of god ladies, lock your doors!

Sorry to be skeptical here, but this story sounds fishy. The door was unlocked? The roomate never woke up, even after her roomate started screaming? Just fishy.

I heard somewhere that stranger rapes aren’t that common on campus, especially in the dorms. And yeah, lock your doors and stop letting people piggy back into the buildings.

We were told that the first two were almost 100% not related to each other. For whatever that’s worth.

It’s plausible if her roommate was passed out.

Also, it seems the girl scared him off by screaming before he got too far.

I sort of wonder if a drunk dude ended up in the wrong dorm room and tried to climb into bed to find a woman there. He either thinks it is a wonderful present or doesn’t even notice her until she starts screaming.

@kc, I was totally thinking the same thing. I know of at least 3 of my friends who that’s happened to at some point. Why no one locks their damn door is a mystery. If I was in my room my door was locked. If I’m not in my room, my door was locked. Unless I was having a party or something, I locked it out of habit.

sandburg the assaults that have been reported are only the ones that make the paper. Here’s a piece MPR did on April 28th about an earlier case; I heard it in my car. Here’s a snip:
The incident is the first sexual assault reported on campus this year. But many more have taken place and gone unreported, according to Roberta Gibbons, associate director for the Aurora Center on the U of M campus.

“The school year so far, we’ve seen 91 cases of sexual assault here at the Aurora Center,” said Gibbons. “That number is going to be a lot higher than what the police see.”

In addition, it’s sometimes difficult to prosecute incidents of “date rape.”
In other words, whatever number the police have is not the whole story by a long shot.
