OK, who was the last Twin to hit for the cycle?
If you think the answer is Kirby Puckett in 1986, you didn’t hear that Carlos Gómez did it late Wednesday night in a rain-delayed game against the White Sox.

Can't be more predictable than yankees.
Enh, at least some good came out of it. Eventually.
If Hardy can find his form from two years ago it will be a fantastic trade. Go-go was at best a defensive center fielder. If he could have learne...
I agree. The Yankees are boringly predictable.
This is why the Twins are the Twins and the Yankees are the Yankees. Let's see, should we go for Hardy or Teixera? Hmmm.
I tink peraps it is te curc of Crist, Marybet414.
If I can c(h)ime in...I left the 'H' behind years ago and indeed there is no better way. The church of Crist... Bless you all.
I like the guy, but I have to admit he was a bit disappointing.
Just about every time we went to a game at the dome, you'd hear "fans" (quote marks emphasized) trashing GoGo loudly, which made me want to stand ...

Thanks, kurtis. I was going to post something on this this AM, if no one else had.
The Twins are fun again — this series (and the two games we won in the Dome) against the hated Sox has been great entertainment.

Since there’s little love lost between the two clubs, I’m surprised that the White Sox’ official scorer gave him a hit on that ninth inning single.

This is worthy of a link?!?!?!
Christ on a cracker.

Turned it on last night and saw they were showing an old game and figured it was delayed. Too tired. Wish I coulda seen it.
Go, Twins!
7:21 am
also…I’m pretty sure that Carlos Gomez covers more ground in the outfield than any CF I’ve ever seen. I’m sure that Bill James will bear this out statistically at some point.

How long til their next first round exit?
Can someone start a countdown to futility clock?
7:28 am
I was surprised they gave him a double in the sixth.
7:39 am
Hats off to Punto for redeeming himself in the sixth as well with a HUGE hit to get the ball rolling, so to speak.

Way to go Gomez! I would comment on the haters, but it is pointless. It sure does suck having a winning season every year, but it isn’t good enough for some people. Hooray Gomez!
8:46 am
Seriously, having a winning team every year just isn’t enough for some folks. The Twins have won two world series within our lifetime, that is much more than a lot of clubs have done. Yes, I get it, they are not the Yankees. Thank God they aren’t. Like most things in MN they are better than most but just not quite the best in the world. We’re a 90th percentile kind of a place.
9:04 am
Reminds me that I NEED to get to a game. I think this is the longest into a season I have gone without going to one.

Lunch!, the reason we aren’t really excited about the twinkies as a whole is because of the actions of the management and ownership of the club more than the team itself. As soon as we get a talented player, we trade them away or let them lapse into free agency. Granted, we’ve had great luck and it’s really fun to see a winning team of young guys, it’s just really hard when you look so fondly back to the days where you could name the whole team without being a rabid fan, and there were a good chunk of guys that actually stayed with the team after they showed potential. You had the heroes, Puckett, Hrbek, Gladden, Aguilera on the mound….
Beyond that, the doldrums of the mid-to-late 90s really killed baseball in Minnesota. Baseball in general is running into rough times with fans, and it’s hard for a team that lost a major chunk of its fanbase to bring itself back into state identity in this climate.
I’m sure the reasons are varied and one could write a very long research paper on the subject, but the fact is we used to really embrace the twins, now we don’t. So even if they’re winning, people really don’t identify them as the “home team” anymore.
Beyond that, it’s fucking expensive to see a game. Sure, they’ll have cheap seats promos once and a while, but it’s insane how much a small-ass pop goes for, or a thing of popcorn. And in this new stadium, you can bet your ass that isn’t going to change.

Have you noticed that Mauer and Morneau are still here?

I separate my support for the team from my disgust with the business aspects(pohlad you bastard). I grew up in a town without MLB, so I am probably pretty Pollyanna-like about it. But aside from not being able to hold onto Santana, I think management has been very effective at wringing talent out of marginal players and buying low and selling high on the trade market. For every washout free agent like sidney ponson, you get a nice cheap reclaimation project like Dennys Reyes.

I don’t go into sports with either a sense of entitlement or obligation. The local teams do not owe me anything, and I don’t owe them anything. If they are entertaining, I watch. Last night was entertaining.

Shouldn’t someone alert Dave Golokhov @ Askmen.com?
Yes, I’m still ticked about that “Top 10 Worst Franchises” drivel.
10:24 pm
In defense of Bill Smith…He avoided paying Santana 137.5MIL over six years and got a player who hit for the cycle for the first time in nearly 22 years.
