I saw the dress rehearsal last night for Ragmala’s new show “Sva: Vital Force” It’s a cross-cultural collaboration between the local Bharatanatyam troupe Ragamala Music and Dance Theatre and Japans Wadaiko Ensemble TOKARA. The dancers are amazing, the drummers are sexy as hell, and there’s an amazing piece with sitar player Shubhendra Rho and Indian cellist Saskia Rao de-Haas as well. Here’s the City Pages Review of the show.

Is anybody planning on seeing this?

I think this looks incredible and would love to go. The Sunday evening performance is the one that I’m planning to attend.

That is the only one I could do too. No way I could talk my husband into going though. Anybody else interested?
There was just an article on Ragmala in the Mpls/St Paul we just got.

I’d love to go, but this weekend is booked.
I have been a dedicated Ranee fan for 15 years and I used to work the booths for her selling cd’s etc.
Anyone that likes dance and hasn’t seen Bharatanatyam needs to make this a must attend.

mb21 I’m a big fat maybe. I’ve seen the drumming thing before and loved it. If I get my Sunday chores done AND the tix are cheap (student rate? I actually qualify, god bless my l’il 2-credit course at the U). Would you mind playing it by ear and talking on Sunday afternoon?

Playing it by ear sounds great.

I just talked to someone involved and the tix are going fast.
