Bacon Bash 2008 – This time, it’s bacon

55 Reader Comments

This is just straight-up antisemitism.

I can’t go this Saturday! I am going to the place where they eat hot dog instead.

Meh I say! Meh!

Step on a scale today, and ask yourself: Should I do this?

I can’t go this weekend, but some friendly advice — Unless you’re planning on baconing late, 112 will likely not be able to seat a Mnspeak crowd for a while. The place is generally packed during the dinner hours on the weekend.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

And Max, “you have to look with better eyes than that” – The Abyss, 1989.

As for the rest of you, I’m interested to know who’s in, so I can make the necessary reservations. I’d also like to know whether anyone is seriously up for two restaurants/bars over the Saturday, and where people would most like to go…

Could you make the weekend after, Mr Rich? Because there will be two bacon bashes. That’s right. Two.

I’m in and my vote is for the Triple Rock.

I’ll have mine with the fat-free bacon.

I’d even drive somewhere for bacon! Name the time and place, and I’ll try like hell to make it!

you know, if I didn’t have like a zillion rugs to cut later that evening I would totally be up for this.

but I don’t think I can do that much bacon and still dance.

I’m on Team Bacon!

If I didn’t hate people and any social situation I’d totally be up for this. My scale goes up to 350 pounds, and damn it all if I won’t try to max it out hehehe

and I know if I do even a few lines of bacon, I’ll just keep wanting more bacon all night until it’s gone.

please, someone has to try early’s bacon.
it’s so effin good.

This is just straight-up antisemitism.

How so? He just said bacon. I assume that leaves room for turkey bacon…

turkey bacon is not bacon. how dare you.

I’ll eat bacon any time, any place. I’m easy like that. (FYI, this is also my pickup line)

I’m sorry. I was just trying to be inclusive.

[But really, I don't think turkey bacon is bacon either. In fact, between you and me, I'd disown my kid if s/he became a turkey bacon eater]

I will not attend, but I’ll rev my Minibike of Destruction with a 21 bacon salute.

I will definitely be there!

The 112 is on top of my list, but it’s true that place gets packed early on. And the Triple Rock… I thought I heard their bacon night is on Wednesdays? I just tried calling (no answer) and sent an email asking them for more info.

Thanks for organizing! It warms my heart that such an event was conceived and will actually take place.

anyone had the delcious cheeseburger at 112?
that bun is so crunchy and beautiful.

decent burger @ 112, but that ain’t a bun, it’s a friggin English Muffin. weak.

i don’t think it is exactly an english muffin–it’s like a crumptet/muffin hybrid.
still, very delicious burger

It has brie cheese on it.

Vile.

Hey, this ain’t no burger thread. Bacon Bacon Bacon.

This sounds like possibly the Best. Idea. Ever.

jess, I just want to say that if I ever get my wii on the internet, we’re going to be wiifriends. I’m not even sure if I have any games that take advantage of wiiconnect24 (orwhatever), but who cares.

Sweet, Wayne! I’m pretty sure I don’t have any of those games either, but I can send my Mii to your Wii. That’s about as cool as I am at this point.

What time is bacon time? Cuz I could be in for some bacon.

While I’m aware that at all times it is bacon time, are there any specifics for this bacon extravaganza yet? Otherwise, I am fully capable of saying that I was not given enough time…

Yes, please do let me know. I’m holding open my schedule for bacon on Saturday. I need to let my TV know whether or not I will be watching it all day on Saturday.

I guess the outstanding question is “are we doing lunch or dinner, or both?”

I will keep MNspeak vigil with a song on my lips at two restaurants on Saturday for lunch and dinner, plus bar(s) in between, if that’s what people would like to do. On the other hand, if everyone just wants to do dinner then I’ll see you at X at 8pm.

My assumption is, two restaurants. If just two of you baconites confirm that you’re up for that and bars in between. I will go ahead and get it all scheduled.

I can be somewhere for lunch bacon.

I’m out if you do lunch. Working my 2nd job until 2 or 3pm on Saturday.

No guilt in that statement at all… really, I promise.

I could also do a bacon lunch, but I have commitments at 6:30. So, any type of evening bacon revelry will have to proceed without me.

Then we’re gonna take it to the bridge and do both lunch (say, 2pm) and a dinner (8.30-ish?) this Saturday.

Anyone got any preferences of where they’d most like to go? Also, some vague figures on who is able attend at these times would be good, so I can try for some reservations. Doing a bit of reading, I would be surprised if I can get anything for the 112 Eatery this weekend, but who knows?

I’d love to chew the fat with you guys at lunch — will do if my schedule allows.

I am in for evening only.

I am going to mention the Nook one more time. But I’ll go anywhere they serve BLTs.

Teucer, do you want some help researching restaurants? I’m happy to help; just let me know. I’m also happy if you just make unilateral decisions for us all.

The Nook gets raves from some of my co-workers. I haven’t been there yet.

Evening only for me.

Unfortunately, I will not be back in town for the innagural Bacon Bash.
I will be here enjoying the final spring runs:

Nuttin’ButSnow

But, I will make sure to have bacon on Sat and think of you all.
What do you say to cheer bacon?

No matter, Cheers.

I think to cheer bacon you can just say “Mmm, bacon…”

Maybe we’ll come up with something more rousing on Saturday night.

Oh, why does it have to conflict with basketball?

I just thought of one, but it is French. It does rhyme and it is rousing, but I’m not in the mood to deal with pick-on-the-french people.

Aw what the hell. It is “Allons lardons!” and it means “Let’s go, bacon!”

kinda like the “overrated” chant you hear way too often @ college basketball games…

All-ons Lar-dons (clap, clap, clap, clap-clap)
All-ons-Lar-dons (clap, clap, clap, clap-clap)

I’m down with the dinner hour…

I can make it to the dinner one too. yay for bacon. amen.

I can make it to the dinner one too.

I love Allons Lardons! Although I think it needs to be accompanied by the slow clap.

A *clap*

Bacon *clllapp*

Cheer *claaap, claaaap*

Sloooww *claap, claap, claap*

*clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap*

I said 8.30-ish for dinner. But dinner is now going to be at 9pm, at Manny’s.

The host I spoke to says that they are famous for their Nueske’s bacon appetizer, which is one pound of bacon expressed in two slices. Oddly enough, I can’t find it on their online menu, but there it is.

The TripleRock is my lunch choice, but they seem hard to get hold of. Their vmail has been full all day. I sent them an email, so we shall see.

I’m thinking we try for the Triple Rock at 2pm. They serve breakfast until 3, so I imagine that they’d have bacon. Muffuletta is in St Paul, which isn’t going to be feasible for at least one working member of our bacon party at lunch time, so we may need another alternative if I can’t get confirmation from the Triple Rock. I may stop by their this evening to check.

I will post updates tomorrow. If anyone else wants to come, the bookings should be able to acommodate – just let me know on this thread as soon as you can.

Oh yeah, and the other good news is that I’ve booked a table (with numbers based entirely on handwaving and guesswork) at the 112 Eatery, on Saturday, April 26, at 9pm, which is the earliest they will be able to seat between 8-12 people.

So book your calendars.

NO EXCUSES, BACON WIMPS. IT’S TIME TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND BACON UP.

I think I’ll try to make it.

In for sure for dinner and should be able to make lunch, but will be a little late around 2:30. Just in time for an afternoon cocktail…

Grote, how come I haven’t heard from you on this? You surprise me; I thought you were resolutely non-kosher. Will we not be seeing you this weekend or on the 26th?

I loves me some bacon, I’m definitely out Saturday afternoon with the kids, and we’ll be in Scottsdale April 26. But there’s a 50/50 chance that I can do tomorrow night…as our long-held plans are on the verge of falling through.
