Polar Bear Plunge, Lake Calhoun Saturday

There is also an annual New Year’s Day plunge into Lake Minnetonka that raises money for ALAMN asthma camps for kids.

I really don’t understand what events like this prove. It’s great that they’re giving to charity, but what does jumping into freezing cold water have to do with anything?

Beats me. I think it’s crazy.

if you’re a well-endowed man it lessens the jealous hatred other men hold for you (at least temporarily)

It’s quite invigorating. And as I overheard someone else say when I did mine, it’s the best cure for a hangover.

Just heard word that Mayor Rybak will be jumping.

That’s the only thing that could get me to show up.

And show up I wood. hehe

YouTube of this year’s Lake Minnetonka dive.

I’m in!

My understanding is if there’s a chance to jump into sub-freezing lake water, Heather and JT will be there.

it’s a stupid publicity stunt, done to get the media involved. Lame. The first time it was done, it was interesting, but now they do a polar plunge thing every year. A bunch of people jump in a cold lake. Whoop de freakin’ do.

I did this earlier in the year. It was super-fun, and the initial jump not as bad as I had feared.

I do the Polar Plunge every year myself, it’s not only a wonderfully easy way to raise money for a charity…it’s great for staying acclimated to the winter climate here. I’ve done it when it’s been 6 degrees. And at the 20 to 30 degree marks. It’s truly invigorating for both the mind and the body. No one should discount it until they at least try it once.
