Freezing in Iraq

18 Reader Comments

My wife and I first met Sami in 2000 at a political event. We try to see him whenever he comes back to Minnesota to share his experiences in Iraq. Some of you may remember Simbad’s, the restaurant he owned in Minneapolis. A really interesting and remarkably brave guy. We always smile at his trademark farewell: “Salaam, Shalom, So Long.”

It’s going to be cold all over. brrrr!

Maz, can you explain what that chart is actually showing? I don’t think you realize even with the axis represent.

delta T = change in temperature.

Delta T from what? What is the baseline? Isn’t that graph still showing a positive delta T from the baseline? So its still showing a positive increase, just not an much. Graphs like this taken completely out of context with no explanation are much like your comments, worthless.

They are used to convince gullible morons that don’t understand science what the Climate Change deniers are feeding them.

And actually neither of the axis represents Delta T, one is for time and one is for temp. Delta T is a function of temp over time.

See you have shown yourself to be as uninformed as we thought.

Stick to your dulling edge software programming.

And you should stick with that name. it fits.

I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss them so outright, Confused. The source that Dailytech got the story from (Wattsupwiththat) seems to be a bit of a global-warming sceptic, but the originating agencies all seem to be legit and the data is right there to look at. Let’s have a bit of due diligence before trashing on the Maz this morning.

DT’s, that’s fairly magnanimous since commenters don’t get the same treatment from Maz. Quid pro quo.

Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight, alie.

I’m not saying it’s not, but after the entertainment provided in the other thread I’m willing to cut a little slack.

Maz, I’m sure I’d like you in person, but your condescending, self-riteous, and dismissive attitude prevents me from taking you seriously and wish you would just go away. I’m sure I’m not the only one tired of you. Contempt only breeds more contempt and it’s one of the things that’s making MNSpeak very tiresome for me.

Have a nice day!

Let’s get back to the original link, and not the unrelated second one that Maz added in. This is not a thread to discuss global climate change.

I believe what maz refers to is known as global dimming. Nova did a nice show on it a while back.

This does not gloabal climate change isn’t happening, though, as NOVA explained.

The real point of the article isn’t a path that hasn’t been heavily tread.

The US invasion has caused a disruption in the flow of kerosene to the people of Iraq and caused the price to inflate from $0.58 cents for 20 liters to $0.82 cents per liter.

Now thats inflation! $0.029 per liter to $0.82 per liter. 2828% increase in price and less availability. At least according to the article.

Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight

what!? typical navy boy thinking. Rambo does it all the time — and kills many many evil climate change naysayer terrorists.

Current Weather in Najaf.

I know they live in a very warm area but no one is freezing to death with a low of 54.

Confused is correct – It took a couple of weeks back and forth with Sami to get the story edited. It was a lot colder in Najaf a couple of weeks ago.
