The Star-Tribune reviews The Penumbra’s production of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson: After attending Marion McClinton’s 1993 production of “The Piano Lesson” at Penumbra Theatre, playwright August Wilson remarked that he had seen the work’s definitive staging. If he were alive today, he might reconsider.

The PiPress is equally laudatory: The production, packed onto Penumbra’s compact stage in its Selby-Dale theater, shows the company working in its wheelhouse and to its strength. The ensemble, under the direction of Lou Bellamy, is in clarion voice, moving confidently through the three-plus hours with utter confidence in the humor, the rhythm and the music of its favorite playwright.

I’ll have to check this out. The theater is right across the street from where I work, and I’ve enjoyed ebverything I’ve seen at Penumbra to-date.
