I’m sick of working in the “if you have to ask you can’t afford it lingerie” glamorous life too. Think I’ll spend the day stealing samples of food I can more than afford and wearing designer loungewear. Yeah, rich lady keepin it realz!

Bird related note: the cardinals were in fine voice this AM. Someone on the radio said that many people had called today to comment on the level of bird song at sunrise today.

I read the whole thing as she normally types, instead of the scrubbed version from her editor. That resulted in a loss of 10 IQ points. That’s a lot, people. I gotta work towards getting them back.

And this from the Melinda Jacobs piece: “After spending many years actually getting paid to cover social events, I have come to the conclusion that I would rather pay someone else to go than to deal with the superficial B.S. that goes along with many of these unnecessary functions.”

Now she tells us.

Although I really rather liked “You see, much of my career has been about going to glamorous events and talking to glamorous people, but it recently dawned on me that I am bored with the whole social  phony, get dressed up, and make nice to a bunch of people that I really don’t give a flying f* about  scene.”

It is actually refreshingly honest. So much so that if most of us ordinary folk were to be this frank that would certainly spell career suicide. And yet I think that Melinda will be alright. More power to her, I say.

Oliver- I agree with you about Melinda’s piece. It would be like a TV person writing a blog saying, “I’m done. I will never again say, ‘That’s right, Don.’ Or, ‘Great question, Amelia’ when they say something stupid.”

She just called much of her social circle phony and superficial. That’s pretty awesome.

Writing about the society scene in flyover country has gotta be a hard dollar. I don’t blame her.

I lived with a fella in college whose grandfather owned the cubs back in the day. Money from plumbing widgets at the turn of the century or something. One of the nicest people you will ever meet.
