Maxwell’s American Pub Burned Down

Ouch, hope everyone made it out alright!

Glad you linked to thedeets.com 3 times in 2 sentences – I wasn’t quite sure exactly where the story was!

When was the last time a building in downtown burned down? Doesn’t happen often.

jpavleck, Aaron did get a little link crazy. He told me he’s been at work since 5am, so maybe he was cracking up or under caffeinated.

I don’t mind, because I <3 Ed. thinking about getting bumper stickers made – but that would probably be a little creepy to paste my daewoo in ‘em

kwatt, the last I remember were the mills burning and that was decades ago.

ur old

Didn’t the Washburn Mill burn in 1991ish?

Also, Gluek’s had a huge fire in 1989.

I can only hope Maxwell’s comes back in the same fashion. Stopped there for the first time last year…great place!

Watch out Ed, Derusha might lay the smack down, as I hear that’s his news turf.

New title:

Fire at Maxwells, Coffee at Eight.

I’ll watch my back, Paul.

I’ve been to Maxwell’s more than any other Minneapolis bar. Probably 300+ times on Thursday nights. I’ve even sent the wait staff postcards from Grand Cayman. It’s a great place.

My wife just had a job interview in the area — I told here she couldn’t miss the turn, just look for Maxwell’s. (sigh).

The Beatles tune “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” is now in my head…

Too bad, it was a great bar. I used to by bbq sauce from one of the bartenders.

Kohler is your server white hot …..its taking forever to load.

It certainly didn’t compare to these or the Maxwell, but the Fineline had a little campfire a few years ago too.

Who can forget the Norwest Bank fire in 1982?

Picture

I always thought of it as the Donaldson’s fire. I think it started there.

According to the Strib article, a kitty was killed in the fire, in one of the apartments above. Poor kitteh.

Not quite downtown but how about the Nicollet fire of 2008. On the same day!!!

I note the Strib did not print the breed or color of the dead cat.

I believe a woman had a small dog in one of the apartments last summer. At least that’s what I remember seeing through a chicken wing induced haze while sitting at a sidewalk table on Washington on a warmer day than today.

Maxwell’s American Pub in downtown Minneapolis

Did anyone see Swandog lurking nervously around downtown today?

The strib has an article on the Nicollet fire. Sounds super sketchy to me.

cjc and I heard a guy yelling “woot!” this morning on Nicollet about 15 minutes before the firemen showed up. I heard a big bang, like someone hiting a dumpster about 5 minutes before the firemen showed up. That is before the FIRST fire at the place.

If the Maxweel fire was started by a cigarette I’ll take Bob out for dinner at the St. Paul Grill.

I didn’t know there were apartments above it. Wager off.

Anyone know who Maxwell’s manager is and contact info
or if a fund is being set up to help displaced residents?

Looks like the building is owned by Maxwell Properties LLC
and D-Bold Investments…not sure who they are…

The Scandia furniture store was home for many years to a
wood stove place…all winter you could walk by and see
gas jets lit up in the stoves…and yet nary a fire happened then!

This is a terrible tragedy as Maxwell’s served the best buffalo chicken wrap around.

I am going to go get some Frank’s buffalo sauce and cook me up one of those tonight in memory of the fine establishment.
