“The ancient church used to sell indulgences and we could pay for our sins. Some people would compare the offset market to that,” says Enerson.”
heh. Global warming. The new age religion.

Ah, Global Warming Denial. The corporate religion. Heh.

Since we all breath out carbon dioxide, shouldn’t we be able to exchange balloons we’ve blown up for cash money?
10:46 am
(T)he company has actually done nothing to eliminate pollution, but it can claim reduced carbon emissions because it’s paying Dale Enerson to store carbon in his farm fields. (O RLY?) Last year 600 North Dakota farmers sold carbon credits for a total of $2 million.
I’m reminded, a bit, of the story of the guy who had all the virtual credits stolen from his online, in-game world. Who exactly is deciding the worth of uncultivated land? Where is my windfall for my small footprint?
Who knew there was so much value in guilt?

I heard this story today. My first thought was how can I get involved what a scam. Their is no way to verify if the company, farmer or individual actually does what they say. So some company buys carbon get out of free passes so they can say how green they are, this is pure bullshit and will be found out to be a complete and utter scam in the future. Why don’t they pay people not to have kids, this is the ultimate means of reducing our carbon footprint i.e. less people. But that does not sell green shit like some bullshit green add or market driven scam. Wake up America.

You obviously haven’t seen pictures of what townspeople did to the indulgence collectors in Luther’s day.

I’m not surprised.
PS: Population control begins at home, swandog. Please post proof of your vasectomy (no YouTube, please!) before commenting further on other people having children.

And how, exactly is this different than the cap-and-trade proposals that the conservatives have offered as an alternative to mandatory reductions across the board, and pushed for years?
11:07 am
None of us are going to be around MNSpeak in 25 years to then see what people will have to pay to do, or what they’re going to get paid not to do, or vice-versa, Bob.

Swandog isn’t talking about any single person in particular, Bob. I don’t understand why you have to turn the discussion around on him

Bob it is a general statement one in which is factual and true. The real problem of global warming or climate control is limited resources for a exponentially growing population. The global warming crowd has turned this whole thing into a joke. It has become an add campaign to sell shit and it in my opinion is deeply cynical. Just because someone says it is green does not mean that it is green. A real solution instead of selling carbon credits is to sell no children credits and remove the income tax credit for children. The far left does not come to grips with the problem of over population, they just want to sell me “green things” that do not do shit. My truck will never give off as large of a “footprint” as just one child born. Their diapers alone create as much of a carbon foot print as a truck. I do not care if people have kids that is fine but please think about the real problem not the climate change ect. instead of some global warming scam that will do little to solve the problem.
11:32 am
Hold it there Bob. Exactly how much money are we talking about? I wasn’t going to have more kids anyway, so this idea might work out pretty well for me. Kind of like those ag programs that pay farmers to not grow corn or soybeans.
11:38 am
I’d be willing to get in on that too.
11:40 am
The far right also doesn’t want to come to grips with the problem of overpopulation, either. I’ve regularly heard commentators decrying what a low birthrate will do to the economy and blame it on birth control and/or abortion.
11:41 am
I’d love to be paid to not have kids, since it’s virtually impossible for me to have kids anyway it’s a win-win for me!

I think the far left has as many issues as the far right.
I’m not defending the far right, but I’m pretty sure the US is an aging population and has been experiencing a declining birth rate from some time.
11:52 am
Elizabeth – I attended a suburban chamber of commerce meeting years ago where a member spoke on how difficult it was to attract workers to his metal stamping plant. He blamed the (then) small available workforce on abortion. He figured that if it weren’t for Roe v. Wade, he’d have plenty of applicants willing to accept the crappy wages he was paying.
The room looked on in disbelief.

The right and the left are lost in this country that is the problem. No one wants to solve problems both sides want to propagate problems for their own agenda. You listen to them both and think, humm end of the world, global warming yep we are fucked.
12:54 pm
I think I’m going to start making a record of global warming denialist tactics for reference. There’s a classic being demonstrated here: issue conflation. It’s impossible for a denialist to discuss global warming science, energy policy, and Al Gore separately. They’ll just let you chase them in circles:
“Psch, global warming isn’t happening”
“Well, actually evidence suggests strongly that it is.”
“Then we’re not causing it.”
“Well, actually evidence suggests strongly that we are.”
“Then liberuls are hypocrites.”
“Well, I really think that they’re trying their best to enact good policy, even if mistakes happen and-”
“Well, they shouldn’t bother because global warming isn’t happening.”

Here, jeffy. Chew on this awhile.

I do believe that global warming is happening I just a-don’t care and b- their is nothing you can do about it. c- the best thing you can do is take care of your water supply that is the best you can hope for other than that stick your head between your legs and kiss our collective ass good-by

Wow. A position even less defensible and poorer considered than global climate change denial. Congratulations.

Not meant to be defensible just realistic.

Well, the earth will eventually crash into the sun, so you may be on to something.
Me? I plan to be part of a computerized hive mind that has taken to the stars by then.
3:13 pm
Wow maz, those are different than every reputable source.
What’s it like to be a conspiracy theorist?
7:05 pm
A man made black hole can eat the earth, or a comet strike it and kill everyone. A gamma ray burst from a neighboring galaxy can fry the earth in a heartbeat, or a virus kill everyone. Plus, the Rapture is coming!
We’re all gonna die anyway, so why even bother taking care of this world.
7:06 pm
“Me? I plan to be part of a computerized hive mind that has taken to the stars by then.“
Even though that sounds suspiciously like the Borg….count me in!!!
7:22 pm
What’s not known about the Borg is that they are an anarchist collective and make all their decisions using a consensus minus one, non-hierarchic process. So it takes freaking FOREVER to get anything. Anything except attacking the Enterprise, that is. There’s an instant consensus on that one. SCREW YOU PICARD AND YOUR MACHINE OF PATRIARCHY!
7:37 pm
Is Picard really dreamy in that tight little outfit he wears, or is it just me?
7:33 am
At the very least Picard should have the dignity and self respect to wear a crappy toupe and…..break sentences…..into….barely comprehensible…..portions….like a……..REAL MAN!
And Picard never had sex with a green woman. How very sad.
