And speaking of weather

Since he moved to Chicago when I did, I’ll have to vote for the goof on the roof – event though he moved back here 7 years before I did.

Sven Sundgaard scares me. Just his name alone scares me.
Trivia I Just Learned: Sundgaard’s father Kip was an Olympian ski jumper, representing the United States in the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria

Not Minneapolis, but I’ve always liked Too Tall Tom Szymanski.

First saw him in college when he was at KEYC in Mankato. Then, in the year that I was back in Fargo after grad school, he was at KVLY there.

I used to watch Dave Dahl especially during severe weather season, but now watch Paul Douglas. I like Channel 4’s graphics especially the cylindrical ones that indicate rotation. Paul Douglas’ forecasts are done in an easy to understand manner. He has been right on target when the Weather Channel was off. I still enjoy the Weather Channel. My favorites are Jim Cantore, Dave Schwartz, Vivian Brown and Adam Berg (he looks like Ben Tracy). I used to live in Tulsa, OK and have this internal radar when it comes to severe weather. It drives my kids up the wall. I’m out there surveying the clouds for rotation.

Yeah, Too Tall Tom. Last time I was up at the farm, Dad informed me that Tom had been fired. I’m not looking for him to pop up in the Twin Cities market anytime soon. Or anywhere, for that matter. He’s just not…telegenic.

That’s what I was told last week over Thanksgiving. Channels 4 & 11 merged their news broadcasts, I was told the new company decided he didn’t “fit their image” or something.

I believe I was told he is now at a Bismark station.

Local weather died when Ken Barlow skipped town and robbed me of the joy of listening to him bitch nightly about production flubs.

I used to like Janie Peterson because they would green screen her next to the city and it looked like she was towering over the buildings. I would pretend she was a Godzilla styled monster about to unleash hell on Mpls and stomp around the house yelling “ROOOOAAARRRRRR I’m JANIE PETERSON!!!! ROOOAAARRRR!”.
No joke.

Not my favorite weatherman but LOVE this video:

Apparently there was a cockroach in the studio.

So funny hehe

Phil Schrek, Jay Trobec, Jerri Ann Heitreiter. In that order.

OK, here goes:

Dave Dahl – nice guy, but getting increasingly creepy and weird, plus, he seems to have global warming-denial tendencies, not surprising considering he works for Stanley Hubbard

Belinda Jensen – she reminds me of my next-door neighbor….icily Minnesota Nice, cute, but she knows it, and wants nothing to do with you, you fat, less-affluent slob….in other words, she’s the popular girl in high school

Paul Douglas – OK, what can you say? Total dork, but at least he knows his stuff. He’s rich now, which makes him a little more annoying. I’m glad how he’s on the global warming issue bigtime, but annoyed too, because at least until recently he drove a big SUV while hectoring us all how the planet was dying. He repeats his bad jokes in the Strib, on the radio, and then at 6 and 10 too. I guess I wouldn’t come up with new material for each segment all day either, but man, it bugs me. Overall though, thumbs slightly up, and he DOES seem to be able to laugh at himself (as does Dahl….Belinda, not so much).

Sven – dude, I don’t know. What’s with the hair? I like his dorkiness, but he sure seems to come on to Amy Hockert pretty hard. I would too, I guess, but maybe not on the air?

Marler’s a dork, but likeable.

Ian Whatever on Channel 9 at 9 is a Pee Wee Herman-esque creep. Thumbs down.

Mike Fairbourne is short and pro-life. Did you know that? Other than that, he’s OK, in that old WCCO way.

Remember Bud Kraehling? Channel 4, Dave Moore era. I loved him. And Barry ZeVan. Ken Barlow was OK.

Who are we forgetting? Rebecca Kolls? Is she like the new Midwestern Home and Garden Network Martha Stewart clone or what?

That stuff about Janie Peterson is hilarious. Seems like she was perma-pregnant.

TV Meteorologists are a lot like tarot card readers in that respect. You never want a weather man to be looking at the weather map for your area and then suddenly scream “Oh no! Oh my GOD!”

The Weatherball deserved a better fate.

The worst thing is when a weather man looks at a map, says, “OH MY GOD” the assignment desk calls me and says, “We need you to go to xxx NOW!”

I like Paul Douglas because I lived here until I was 7, and he was “my” weatherman. My mother claims that I called him “Doggie.” It’s sweet that he’s back in town.

I also really appreciate Jonathan Yuhaus (sp?) on Kare11’s Weather Line (763.512.1111) – handy when you’re not near a light box.

I can’t stand it when Belinda is working the Weather Line, though, because it always sounds like she’s sucking on a hard candy. It’s this weird pause, followed by a breath-in through the nose. Drives me nuts.

I looovve Keith Marler, especially when they profiled the morning team and outed him as wearing a toup…classic. That and he and Tom whatshisface are constantly vying for who’s the bigger nerd.

“Sven – dude, I don’t know. What’s with the hair? I like his dorkiness, but he sure seems to come on to Amy Hockert pretty hard. I would too, I guess, but maybe not on the air?”

Bwahahahahahahaha!!

Did someone say “Amy Hockert”?

growing up in ohio I used to watch Louis Badalament every night. a fantastic weatherman. he left after a few years though. not sure why.
