what a pretty new masthead at Overheard.
(see? i’m not always an over-critical douche!)
9:29 am
Thanks, Chuck!
9:47 am
I like the new banner too! And speaking of looking great, Mrs. DeBlog is awefully svelte for just having had a baby…

You mean like yesterday, when you called our 30-sec. spot on KARE-11 “awful?”
Well, I can’t argue that it is not the most highly polished piece of work I have ever done, but creating a new commercial from scratch in less than 12-hrs. is never easy.
10:10 am
Those going to deBlog looking for “Don Selby Cheesecake Photos” may have expected something else, Jason.
10:20 am
Sorry Bob… the content is good, but the format is – well, let’s let the people decide.
10:24 am
…Suckovision. Yet it got a mention on KARE-11 5 p.m. newscast, from Goldberg himself!

And don’t try googling that phrase. I won’t make that mistake a third time.
11:31 am
Thanks ranty — I’m biased, but I think she’s looking quite hot these days!
11:40 am
mmmmm, cheescake.
I should have brought some when he interviewed us the other day.
11:41 am
And speaking of the ethanol story on kare the other day, what a waste of 13 minutes of newscast to a) act like ethanol is evil even though it’s an emerging technology (think of what the Internet was like in 1998) and b) misrepresent why it’s not being bought more (because there are few pumps and flex fuel cars have only been in mass production for about two years).
I hate sweeps sometimes.
11:45 am
I’m not at liberty to say all I know about this, but some of the folks who got their ox gored by Scott the KAREbear are really upset by this. Some work in D.C., others buy teevee advertising by the boatload.
As for the ethanol pumps, there are now more than 1,200, at least 3/4 of which are in the upper Midwest, where Goldberg claimed E85 “can’t be found.”
11:48 am
Take solace in the fact that more people are watching WCCO.
Plus, my internal research indicates that all the people watching WCCO are brilliant. And good-looking. Please love me.
11:53 am
I think derusha’s hitting on me.
11:54 am
Sorry. That’s how desperate we are during this time of the year.
11:59 am
People should watch WCCO. Last night, Scott (call me “Rube”) Goldberg did an E85 “road test.” A while back, WCCO’s Terri Gruca did a similar test.
You decide who did the better story.
PS: we already loves u, deDesparate

Just out of curiosity, since I didn’t watch KARE, did you guys caption you 30 sec spot?

We are not hearie-centric fools here, my friend. Click on “format” on Chuck’s comment. Just text, no narration. There is a drumbeat (not my idea), but it works fine without sound.
12:27 pm
Hasn’t ethanol been replaced by a larger and more foolish liberal pet project yet?
How about methanol? Let’s fuel our vehicles on junky paranoia.
Or Deathenanol, don’t souls burn bright and hot?
Or must be stick with a technology that really isn’t good either?
1:06 pm
You will have to offer up more than the opinion of Tad “Oil Man” Patzek to impress me. Both he and ethanol-hatin’ soulmate David Pimentel are the laughingstocks of the biofuel research community.
1:14 pm
Good thing the “biofuel research community” has such a great sense of humor and no bias at all. Lord knows there won’t be any bad side effects to ethanol expansion like water table depletion and/or clear cutting.
I suspect the whole biofuel industry is just as self serving as oil and it distracts us from real environmentally friendly solutions like hydrogen or solar.
And what? Not interested in harnessing the power or Deathanol or Methanol? I suppose they lack the same huge government subsidies.

It is a huge subsidized industry that not only depletes our tax dollars but also drives up the price of food. Furthermore, the chemicals sprayed on the fields get into our water supply. All of the chemicals used in the production of ethanol ie fertilizers ect. are petroleum based. Somehow burning our food as fuel seems like a bad idea. One of the biggest welfare recipients in this country are farmers.

Some are members of Congress, too.

Now you sound like OJ.
Feel free to go to your local dealership and buy your new hydrogen or solar powered car. Post pictures.

Nice strawman.
The same could have been said about biodiesel cars not long ago.
So your debate is biodiesel is slighty better so it’s the solution? It’s called penny smart and pound foolish.
And compare me to OJ again and I’ll rob you in a hotel room.
2:55 pm
Heh! Okay, no more OJ.
If you have read my many posts and comments on this topic closely, you’ll note I never claim biofuels are the solution, just one of many solutions.
Yes, a little better is better than the status quo. Ethanol and biodiesel are not the final destination, but rather the first small steps away from oil. Some seem to believe if there is public/private investment in biofuels, there won’t be any money left for other research and development. Nonsense.
I can assure you, “big biofuel” is not holding any other green industry back — each “solution” has their pros and cons, there is no such thing as a perfect fuel or energy source. We can’t afford to wait for one to come along, either, hence our work with something many Minnesotans can use today.
Fair enough?
3:23 pm
I blame bacon.
4:45 pm
Don’t you dare blame bacon!
I’d rather concede ethanol is the cure for all of humanities woes than we look down that deep dark well.
Have I mentioned how much I lurve Ethanol?
4:48 pm
Most of us MNspeaker do, David. Some a little too much.
We all love bacon. For our friends in “the tribe,” thick-cut pastrami, smoked! Vegie Bacon for tara.
5:00 pm
Thanks for thinkin’ of me, Bob!
5:04 pm
We (heart) veggie lovers! Me, I been doing the soy sausage thing for years. Still an occational carnivore.
5:11 pm
Soy sausage is so good! It’s one of my favorite faux meat products! I it’s the fennel seeds that makes it taste so real.
5:15 pm
Soysage???
5:16 pm
soyfuckers
5:18 pm
Veggie bacon can not be done well. Ever. It’s like eating the back cover of a notebook.
I have heard that eating popcorn on burnt toast tastes exactly like bacon, though. I can imagine it kind of working, but I’ve never tried it.
5:26 pm
I want to know who was the first person to think “Hmmmm, I’ll put some popcorn on this burnt toast”
I’ll bet they weren’t high.
5:32 pm
Somebody who’d had a stroke, I expect.
5:33 pm
JACC: I luvs bacon but it does cause a lot of the worlds problems. But, I luvs soy sausage and Chik Patties and edamame as well.
Jim, you’re so right on the bacon though – not done well with veggie products.
9:02 am
Bob brings home the bacon for biofuel in this guest op/ed in today’s Mankato Free-Press.
