If you were to make a Bob Dylan film

Three names come to mind: Billy Bob Thorton

Read most of that Times Magazine piece yesterday. Kate Blanchett is a dead ringer. She looks just like him.

That’s gonna be a strange movie. Maybe stranger than Masked and Anonymous. No one seemed to like that movie but me and my wife. Still remember some of the one liners.

mmmm…Christian Bale….

… Har Mar Superstar.

I saw a clip of Cate Blanchett doing a scene and it was really good. Can’t wait to see it. And Rat, I think you are the only person I’ve ever talked to that liked it. I got into the first half of it but once he got to the event he was supposed to be playing it just seemed unwatchable.

Great Quotes from Masked and Anoymous

Uncle Sweetheart to Jack Fate: “You look good. You got the “jail pale”. It suits you.”

Soldier: I wish I could live in my dreams. Do you dream?

Jack Fate: Yeah, I dream. I dream that I’m walking through fire… Intense heat. I don’t pay much attention to my dreams.

Jack Fate: Some of us pursue perfection and virtue and if we’re lucky, we catch up to it. But happiness can’t be pursued. It either comes to your or it don’t. You can always say, “if only this and if only that”, but if only is a state of mind that we get into when we feel deprived.

“You have reach the official residence of the president. Built in 1718, burned down in 1809. Rebuilt in 1819, burned down again in 1841. “

There’s more, and better….

Christian Bale was really hot in The Machinist, huh Alie?

Added to my netflix. I should get it in about three years considering the amount of crap that’s already on there.

Haven’t seen it yet, baker, but it’s my position that he’d be hot in pretty much anything.

He was in Empire of the Sun, and he was 13! Are you going to recant, or are you a perv Alie!

Christian Bale is a great actor. In the machinist he only ate apples and ran a ton to get his weight down to about 115. The point of the movie was to show someone wasting away. He was still pretty cute but needed a sandwich.

I recant nothing! Plus, he wasn’t even on my radar until American Psycho.

In the photo, Heath Ledger looks more like George Michael, and Richard Gere looks like Freddy the Freeloader…

I forget…Is Christian Bale the Welsh Guy Pearce, or is Guy Pearce the Aussie Christian Bale.

American Psycho rules.

Oh, great…now bud jr is starting to talk in the third person.

American Psycho rules.

This must be a guy thing, because I absolutely HATED that movie and so did a lot of my female friends. But every guy I know that’s seen it, loved it. Shit, I even tried reading the book, but only got about half way through.

Movie sucked (other than the busines card scene, which I enjoyed for some odd reason), but it was a command performance of Method Acting by Bale.

Aliecat, that is a tough book to get through, absolutely. But it was just too perversely, gratuitously (or gratuitiously pervesely) compelling for me to put it down. And after I finished it I wish I hadn’t. That Easton Ellis fella is a sick fuck, that’s for sure.

I was surprised when this attempt at a movie came out, but couldn’t bring myself to see it, even though I knew 80% of the scenes in the book would NEVER even be filmed because they couldn’t pass censors.

I’d be more suspicious of a guy who dug the book more than the movie. That book is not to be dug, it is to be revolted by. Well-written, and creative, but well-written and creative pure revulsion.

Helloooo – Christian Bale was Cowboy in Newsies. Only the best movie ever!
Just Brilliant

Somebody not only remembers, but loves, the movie Newsies? My stars, the Internet is a wonderful thing.

When Newsies first came out on video, my sisters and I watched it everyday, sometimes twice a day, for like two weeks. I still have all the songs memorized.

Newsies has a substantial cult following, as does Christian Bale.

As for I’m Not Here, a friend of a friend saw a screening and said it’s a mess, not in a good way.

What happens when a local hipster New Media icon sells out and becomes one the the MSM types he used to mock? The results are not pretty.

Chuck is The Man!

I read the book in high school…good thing my mom didn’t pay much attention to it because she would have freaked if she knew what it was about. Easton Ellis is a hack and mediocre writer. I did agree with most of the his music discussions though. Phil Collins sucked after he left Genesis.

I knew Brett Easton Ellis more for his earlier work Less than Zero. That’s another f-ed up atrocity exhibition. I pretty much have avoided anything with his stamp on it since. What a freak show… His books are essentially picaresques with horrifyingly amoral characters. Still better than I could do, not that I would.

I love “Less Than Zero”! I just had my bf netflix it because he’s never seen it and it just arrived a couple of days ago. I love all the cheesy 80’s movies, and Less Than Zero has “Christmas in Hollis” on the soundtrack. Sign me up!

The movie is really toned down, I was talking about the book. Less than Zero the novel is not cheesy it is disheartening. For eighties nihilism give me Repo Man anyday. I like that brand of light-hearted, confusing, low budget nihilism.

I agree, Ellis’s writing makes me sick (not that he’s a horrible writer, just the subject matter). Makes me glad I was still in the My Little Pony and Cabbage Patch Kid set during that time…

Repo Man rules!

I saw the first part of American Psycho recently and couldn’t handle it. My stomach was doing cartwheels and my boyfriend just didn’t get it — it’s definitely a not-for-females film.
