I thought Leigh Kammond’s show was on Saturday nights??? Is that so? If so, the Strib article is misleading. Probably meant for tomorrow’s paper, but posted online today?
5:06 pm
Leigh KAMMAN. Yes, I did think his name was Lake Hammond.
5:07 pm
Maybe it is tomorrow. Anybody know?
5:17 pm
Obviously Max is a big fan. It’s Saturday. LK will be missed on the airwaves.
5:20 pm
it is tomorrow. the fucking Strib is wrong. that’s what happens when you fire all of your proofreaders.
5:22 pm
No, that’s what happens when you automatically post the stories for the Saturday paper on Fridays.
5:24 pm
I am a fan of the yazz flute.
Corrected.
5:26 pm
Anyway, I just love Leigh’s voice. Smooth pipes.
5:27 pm
i am a fan of the jazz cigarette.
you kids and your goddamned internet news.

Jazz cigarettes… mmm… smokey. Goes well with jazz liquor

Ugh. Who cares already. At least we got KBEM FM 88.5 FM for continuous jazz music with local talent DJ’s on the air.
Btw, MPR is a seething corporate monster for god’s sake! They have broadcasting testicles as far as Idaho and South Florida; they also own KPCC FM in the LA area in California.

Such a profound loss to the Twin Cities airwaves.
However, from the article:
He wants to resume work on an educational book project he conceived in 1973. The topic is the history of American jazz broadcasting, from the 1920s to the present day.
The book will not include the countless interviews he’s done over the years — from Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker to Karrin Allyson and 15-year-old saxophonist Grace Kelly. That, he says, would be a different book.
I hope we get to see his book. And I hope we get to see the “different book,” too. What a sweet, sweet legacy.
5:54 pm
Broadcasting testicles!

Every time I think I understand how radio works, I learn something new.
So if you listen to the radio, you’re actually being aurally teabagged?
5:57 pm
I can’t stop laughing.

Leigh Kamman is local.
Btw, MPR is a seething corporate monster for god’s sake!
But keep in mind that KBEM just got a rather large check to keep their operations running from Clear Channel, who hopes to “keep the relationship going.”

Many of them Minneapolis High School students, whose knowledge of jazz and delivery leaves a bit to be desired.
Good luck, Leigh

“Jazz cigarettes… mmm… smokey. Goes well with jazz liquor”
While I listened to some Jazz flute, I held a tumbler of jazz liquor and a lit jazz cigarette in between my jazz hands.
12:51 am
Actually, y’all should try listening to Kamman & his show while enjoying a jazz cigarette. That’s where it’s at. The guy is irreplaceable.

Ah, the Jazz Image with Leigh Kammon; the soundtrack to my, uh, adolescent romantic adventures.
Kammon is the real deal, and we don’t have a lot of that here on the edge of the tundra. I’m glad he’s able to do what he wants and walk away (I presume) on his own terms. It’ll be interesting to see what Emperor Kling does with the time slot.
