I doubt the smoking ban had any effect on cigar stores. It’s still legal to seel them, after all.

I used to buy my cigars at the store in Calhoun Square, but after enough night rolling on the floor from too much nicotine, I gave them up. Dunno if the store is still there.

noticed a new one in uptown last week. (new to me, anyway.) on hennepin between lake and 31st. don’t know anything about it, other than “hey, a cigar shop.”

my neighborhood cigar shop closed in the wake of the smoking ban with a sign that read “Closed Due to Smoking Ban” posted in the window. Guy probably didn’t have the heart to write the real reason, “Closed Due to Lack of Revenue”.

the folks who own Stogies on Grand are good friends of my in-laws, so on the rare occasion I buy cigars, that’s my store of choice. I did notice a pretty new one in New Hope / Crystal on 36th and Winnetka.

If any of you see Pleiades cigars in your stores, please post that. Can’t find them anymore. Finestkind.

There’s cigars named after a star cluster? Wow!

The folks at Jonathon Robert Fielding & Co (Lexington & Larpentaur in Roseville) are great. The prices are ok but the selection is good and if you like tobacco pipes they have a large selection of both tobacco and pipes.

It’s worth the drive through Como park to get there.

Any one know if cigar bars are still around. I use to smoke at this place in Columbia Heights but when the first county smoking ban was in place they had to stop allowing people to smoke. I guess that will be the same on Oct. 1st but is there any exemptions to the ban?

i purchase my (occasional) pack of smokes at the Golden Leaf in Uptown on Hennepin. they have cigars in there too, and there are always a handful of dudes smoking them inside. the guys in there are always nice. wouldn’t hurt to check them out.

You are misinformed. Columbia Heights is in Anoka County, which has NEVER had a county ordinance.

Yes, customers can still sample cigars in tobacco shops after Oct. 1st. Tobacco shops, yes. Bars, restaurants and clubs, no. You can also smoke in the great outdoors (unless a local ordinance set a distance limit, few do), your home (and where permitted) in hotels and motel rooms.

Not an exemption, but one of the legal oddities of native sovereignty: the Freedom to Breathe Act of 2007 will not aply at native american casinos in Minnesota.

I second Golden Leaf Limited on Hennepin near Lake street. They used to be in Calhoun Square but moved across the street a couple of years back. Walk in humidor, nice guys, and a some chairs if you want to stay and smoke.

Golden Leaf is thirded. Great store, and you can enjoy your smoke in peace, or with a conversation, if you like.
