Not sure when you’re moving or if you’ve already moved, but I moved back here recently after spending 15 years in Seattle. If you’re not selling a house or buying a house then give it a try and see how you like it. If you have to sell a house or are looking to buy a house, I’d take a long trip here first to check things out or maybe just rent to see if you like it. MSP is a great city and there are definitely some beautiful areas to explore. BUT, it does not remotely compare to the west coast… not sure exactly where in OR you are coming from. I, too, came back to escape the rain, and I’m finding that I actually miss it, because here it is also overcast a lot and the winter is much the same. On the west coast you can always go to the mountains for snow, and let’s not even talk about the seafood!! Or hiking. Or mountains. Did I already mention that?
The culture here is a bit different… not sure where you fit in the whole liberal vs. conservative thing. Don’t forget, it is the midwest and things are little more conservative here, despite liberal bents. I found the west coast to be more open, more laid back, and even a little flakey. Here, things are neat, well-kept, and little more controlled. Anyway, I hope this helps. In the end, their are plenty of great people and things to do here. It will just depend on how big of a mountain person you are…. it never hurts to go on an adventure if you’re looking for one – good luck with whatever you decide!

We’re thinking about moving from Oregon, too (Portland). Did you make the move? Are you happy with it?
