After the bridge collapsed I was quite grateful that I knew no one who was involved. It somehow allowed me to be less involved and therefore to be less sad. I now know that whether you knew someone directly impacted or not that the stories still make you want to cry. It doesn’t matter how far detached you try to stay – it will eventually hit you.
It happened to me recently while out to dinner with a friend she handed me a piece of paper. On it was the story of one of the survivors of this terrible event. Her name is Mercedes Gorden and she needs our help. She is still in the hospital and likely will be for sometime. There are many ways you can help.
