Honey Wine is also a treasured libation in Ethiopia…but they call it Tej

How many times will Minnesnowtans repeat these bagel questions? I don’t even like bagels, and I know that Zeno and Brother’s air-freight bagels from H&H.

Sunday morning I had a chance encounter with a tasty Common Roots Cafe bagel. It was… awesome. They boil, then bake their bagels, which is of course the only proper preparation. The piece was not as large or as cheap as you would find at H&H but it was the best I’ve had in Minnesota.

You can even purchase a lox plate to accompany your ‘gel.

Forget about air freight, bakery is meant to be eaten within hours, not day(s) of the oven.

Isn’t mead basiclally honey wine? When the sun is really pounding down at RenFest, that mead’s a mean trip.

Also; bagel schmagel, where does a local boy get a slice of New York-style pizza? I had a visitor from New Jersey recently and found myself at a loss.

the best local NY style pizza I’ve had is @ Joey Nova’s on highway 55 in plymouth, justwest of 169…it’s not the genuine article, but it’s the closest you’ll get. Runner up would be SoHo cafe on Hennepin.

I say ditch the effort to find NYC style and just go straight to Punch & tell him that it’s based on real Italian pies, not Italian-American ones.

but why would you take some one to find NY style pizza when they can find it on any street corner where they live?

how bout walleye, sweet corn, cheese curds, venison or . . . I dunno . . . Dib Iab Kib Xyaw Koojtis Qaib instead?

Agreed on Joey Nova’s. And agreed on: Why would you want NYC pizza in Minnesota?

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.

I’m from the north, so…

Are cheese curds available YEAR ROUND in the Cities?!

Because I am going to gain 40 pounds after graduation, if that’s the case.

Yeah. They’re air-freighted in from Wisconsin.

I agree – go to Punch for the bestest pizza in town!!

I have a hard time understanding the appeal of boiled bread.

Can I get a side order of gay dungeon with that?

I prefer Pizza Nea.

I prefer Pizza Nea

Ditto.

Gay Dungeon?!

Gay Dungeon?!

newbie Paulie needs “Wayne’s Insider’s Tour of Notorious NE”

That’s a white belt midget clown hipster MNspeak inside joke, Paulie. Max will be along shortly to explain, and why the gay dungeons were better when rex was here.

as a native new yorker, i will have to venture to try out this so-called “awesome” bagel. i can’t fathom that it would taste anything like the bagels i ate growing up. it can’t! it’s the NY water that makes them so damn good. so unless they ship water from the Hudson out here, they ain’t NY bagels.

same goes for pizza. you can’t get a good slice of pizza anywhere but NY. NY “style” pizza isn’t NY PIZZA, PEOPLE!

i love minneapolis, but damn, i miss NY bagels and pizza.

fuhgetaboutit.

I lived in NY/Connecticut for 4 years and vouch for the distinctive taste of their pizza. I attribute it to a liberal use of oregano.

it’s also the mozzarella and the way it’s shredded. sounds strange, but it makes all the difference.
