I would suggest any of these events from Charley Underwod's Peace Calendar, or at least stop by the Wednesday evening vigil (5-6PM) on the Lake Street bridge and ask the activist/revolutionary class their thoughts on the RNC coming to town.

Here are the cherries from that list for the rest of the week:

Thursday, 7/12, 7 pm, Department of Peace host celebration of the DoP
campaign, with Dot Maver and Lynn McMullen, music, food, more. House of
Balls, 212 3rd Ave N, Mpls. Mary Jane at 651-261-6966.

Saturday, 7/14, 8:30 to 4:30, Veterans for Peace chapter 115 (Red Wing)
hosts annual summer event "Pigstock" at Pig Wisdom Farm, including speakers
like former prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega on criminal charges against
Bush, bioethics prof Steven Miles on torture, whistleblower Coleen Rowley
and former diplomat Ann Wright, plus music, a roasted pig and camping, all
at Hager City, WI. $25. wadenhow@redwing.net or tuvecino@redwing.net or
www.pigwisdomfarm.com or 715-592-5127.

Sunday, 7/15, 3 to 6 pm, Peace in the Precincts potluck picnic, Dunning Rec
Center, Marshall at Griggs, St. Paul. www.peaceintheprecincts.org

This will not be Minnesotas first major-party presidential convention, so the real man-on-the-street question is: "In what year did the Republican party hold its National Convention in Minneapolis?" Bonus points for knowing who was nominated as the Republican Presidential candidate! [Hint: he was already President (#23) but failed to win re-election - alas, one of our least remembered Presidents ...]. Minnesota also voted Republican that year but still somehow later managed to use the elected President's name for a Minneapolis neighborhood and a St. Paul Avenue.
Okay, I had to know who Minnesota's first governor was:
Henry H. Sibley

IT is well known that Jay Leno has a soft spot for Minnesota. Who else would invite Marjorie Johnson as a guest - several times at that! He loved our former governor and all of the other characters, politico and otherwise, who emerge on the National scene from the North woods.

He certainly could have sent a much more cynical emissary than Mo Rocca.

And heck, every knows our first governor was Hubert Horatio Humphrey (DEMOCRAT!)
Yeah. Here's a suggestion: NBC should do a jaywalking segment on the streets of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and see how many liberal idiots would respond to basic trivia questions 101 by Leno himself.

Wanna bet that Minnesotans, who feel passionately about the local public education system, are just as stupid as the folks from California?

Jay: "Who was the first Governor of the state of Minnesota?

Typical Minnesotan: "Uh...Kevin Garnett?"
