As a conservative, I don’t know what problem Kersten has with “individualism.” Seems to me the individual is is placed above just about anything in society.
Sounds like she’s upset at an Amy Winehouse video.
2:38 pm
“Bachmann’s visit seems to have reinforced her support of President Bush’s policy.”
Wow, no one could have predicted that would happen. Absolutely worth every cent of the money wasted to send her there. Pointless.
2:45 pm
I’m with Ellison on that personality disordered individual known as Dick Cheney. Who totes reminds me of this dude:
“Nobody can get the truth out of me because even I don’t know what it is. I keep myself in a constant state of utter confusion.”
3:26 pm
You have absolutely no reason to post an article from a Jewish propaganda site to defame Rep. Keith Ellison. Unless of course you are Jewish yourself trying to promote your cause. Mr. Ellison has done nothing but show support and tolerance to the nations different sects and societies/religiouns. He is a co-signer on a number of diverse bills including Uniting the American Family Act which protects the rights of **SHOCKS** gay international couples – he was at the Pride Parade for Christs/Allah’s sakes.
So please dont post biased article on here.
3:27 pm
Mr. Norwegianty is trying to present himself as so hip that he would never stoop to reading a print newspaper. If he wants to think so, that’s fine. He’s still reading off a G4 (probably still has a PowerPC chip in it) and Apple has come out with G5s.
But right now, there’s really nothing as portable and inexpensive as a print newspaper. Until readers are developed as portable and are made something that people wouldn’t mind losing or misplacing, the presses will continue to roll.
3:33 pm
It never ends with Ellison, does it?
The futile haymaking, I mean. Now if he would just come out of the closet so that all the haters can hate.
3:38 pm
Er, Kal, these are blog posts…not articles.
3:42 pm
So is Dizzy one of the Powerline guys? It sure read like one of his pointless diatribes…
3:43 pm
at least he found somewhere else to post his crazy
3:49 pm
Only thing I see associated with hate is Mr. Kal, who seems to have issues with Jews.
3:53 pm
Are there a lot of “Scott Johnsons” at synagogue?
4:19 pm
No, they’re too busy undermining world order, controlling currency flow, and washing the Rothschilds’ cars.
The Illuminati. It’s what’s for dinner.
4:34 pm
how is my post defamatory towards Jews? I was at a Shabbat dinner last Friday and my loved one works for the JJC. I have a problem with extremists who – like the people of the blog referred to above – have a problem with other people of other religions.
4:35 pm
I do not know how to do posts, so I will leave a comment in hopes someone else picks it up: Looks like someone else is leaving City Pages. Seriously. Could that paper get any worse? A Transformer cover?
4:35 pm
“a Jewish propaganda site”?
Wow, didn’t know we had those. We’ll have to discuss that at our next secret Zionist world domination meeting.
4:40 pm
how is my post defamatory towards Jews?
–Can you read for comprehension? Nobody here said it was defamatory. someone simply said you seemed to have issues with Jews.
–someone else then cheekily pointed out that Mr. Scott Johnson, who wrote on Ellison, is likely not a Jew
–You refer to Powerline as a Jewish propoganda site. I’m a Jew, and it’s certainly not promoting any of my viewpoints…I voted for Keith, and I love people of other religions (including several Catholic girls when I was in high school)
–WTF is the JJC?
4:42 pm
“For instance, the day after I left Baghdad, 26 people were killed in one suicide bombing, 130 in another, ” Bachmann said. “And sometimes it’s reported as though almost it’s America’s fault when this goes off. It’s not America’s fault, It’s al Qaeda’s fault. They are the ones who are encouraging the suicide bombings.”
Yeah, we had a lot of those suicide bombings when I was alive and in charge of Iraq.
No, wait…
4:45 pm
Powerline does a lot of things, but I don’t think it has a reputation for “Jewish propaganda.” The piece in question only mentions Jews once, and that’s in connection with someone else, not Ellison.
You tipped your hand, Kal.
4:48 pm
We never, ever would have considered bombing civilian infrastructure, with car bombs and the like, in Iraq, in order to shape their politics. That’s Al Qaeda. It got worse than this:
“As part of an aggressive prewar covert action program–codenamed Anabasis (after an ancient text about a botched invasion of Babylon)–the CIA was authorized by the White House in the winter of 2002 to blow up targets in Iraq and engage in “direct action” (an agency euphemism for assassination) to weaken Saddam’s regime and to prepare for his ouster by the U.S. military. For Anabasis, the agency smuggled Iraqi exiles to a top-secret site in the Nevada desert and trained them in sabotage and explosives. The Iraqi force, known as the Scorpions, was being trained to seize an isolated Iraqi military post-in order to create a provocation that could trigger a war with Iraq.”
( from http://www.davidcorn.com/book.php )
4:49 pm
Yeah, we had a lot of those suicide bombings when I was alive and in charge of Iraq.
No, wait…
I did them by the tens of thousands and buried the victims so no one would would find them until after I was hanged for my crimes they did know about.

Power Line is neucon blog hiding behind a Jewish friendly anti-Islam facade.
4:57 pm
JJC = JCC
typo while multi tasking.
5:01 pm
So let me get the Powerline post straight: Ellison is a radical Islamist, except they’re confused, because he’s secular. I take it the Powerliners like their Muslims fundamentalist and their homosexuals fa-laming? What exactly do they want, really, for him to be as backwards as they are? If he were, he’d be a MORE radical Islamist, which they don’t like… that kind of idiocy is going to make my head explode.
And the kicker at the end: It’s an audience that includes the Minneapolis atheists who fancy themselves too intelligent to believe in God.
Haha, yep, exactly.
5:04 pm
“Power Line is neucon blog hiding behind a Jewish friendly anti-Islam facade.“
A. You don’t know what “neoconservative” means, do you?
B. I doubt Powerline is “hiding” at all, or that it even has a “facade.”
C. “Jewish-friendly” and “anti-Islamic” are not the same thing, and, in fact, are sometimes in opposition.
D. Look up “Zionism.” Then, decide if you wish to continue using “Jewish” in your comments.
E. You seemingly presume that a study of history that yields an admiration for Israel and a contempt for the surrounding anti-Israel masses must be misguided. This is a helpful, time-saving signal to those wondering how seriously to take your writings.

We just want Iraq to be an enclave for our international terrorists, e.g. MeK, maybe the PKK? Maybe even those parts of Al Qaeda that are ‘manageable’?
Baghdad continues to maintain contacts and in some cases provide sanctuary to several groups and individuals that have practiced terrorism. Iraq hosts and supports the main Iranian opposition group, the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), which carried out several violent attacks in Iran in 1992.
(state sponsored terror 1992 : http://www.fas.org/irp/threat/terror_92/sponsored.html )
Now MeK is peddling the same sort of tripe the INC did in the pre Iraq War build up (from http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_paul_foo_070622_iran_policy_committe.htm ):
“The MEK is a listed terrorist organisation, which is amongst the world’s most equipped and well armed, having under its control a functional military capability. Following the historic and infamous Iraq intelligence failures, this report questions once again the credibility of US intelligence sources.
http://www.aimislam.com/aim-tv/videos/us-intelligence-on-iran–the-mek
Unfortunately, the interviewer did not ask Professor Tanter who is funding the Iran Policy Committee (IPC).
http://www.iranpolicy.org/
The Iran Policy Committee has disclosed:
Members of the IPC: James Akins, Ambassador (ret.); Lt. Col. Bill Cowan, USMC (ret.); R. Bruce McColm, Lt. General Thomas McInerney; Captain Charles T. Chuck Nash, USN (ret.); Lt. General Edward Rowny, USA (ret.); Professor Raymond Tanter; Major General Paul E. Vallely, USA (ret.). “
5:05 pm
It is good to see Michelle Bachmann is getting her talking points straight.
It’s al Qaeda’s fault.
Her proof of that is??? Oh right! They have none… It is just talking points with no evidence required!
5:10 pm
Kal-
you forgot to add that some of your best friends are Jewish.
Then we’d know for sure that you’re not a bigot.
5:11 pm
Power Line is neucon blog hiding behind a Jewish friendly anti-Islam facade.
wrong again…they hide none of that. it’s right on the front page.
5:12 pm
Yup, I had all of them over for Pork and Clams last night.
5:17 pm
E. You seemingly presume that a study of history that yields an admiration for Israel and a contempt for the surrounding anti-Israel masses must be misguided. This is a helpful, time-saving signal to those wondering how seriously to take your writings.
it’s hard to not feel that when every other post on that blog has contempt to a well known Muslim figure and has a waving Israeli flag.
5:40 pm
Powerline might pose at being pro-Jewish, but many of us Jews are cautious enough about our bedfellows not to hop into the sack with people who are our polar opposites but for their proclamation of support of Israel.
I also voted for Ellison, and find these relentless attacks on the man to be noxious. If you go back and look at my comments on MnSpeak while he was running, you will see that I was utterly disgusted by the right’s attempts to use fear of Muslims and fear of black crime to drive voters away from Ellison, and called them on it every chance I got. To the point that even I got sick of the discussion.
I linked to Powerline because every day I do a round-up of what local political blogs are saying about local politics. Not because I, or MnSpeak, agree with what any of them have to say.
5:49 pm
many of us Jews are cautious enough about our bedfellows not to hop into the sack with people who are our polar opposites
metaphorically speaking, of course.
5:50 pm
I don’t think Powerline is showing contempt for Ellison personally, but did severly criticize him for his past associations with the Nation of Islam (granted, old news), and his apparent willingness to countenance conspiracy theories about 9/11 for the purpose of placating an audience of people who entertain offbeat thoughts about the event at a recent gathering.
5:53 pm
Well, to be fair, jumping into a sack with your “polar opposites” leaves you staring at each others’ feet, which, while maybe fun for some, lacks cachet.
5:54 pm
Ew. Grote gets in bed with girls.
6:08 pm
When I was last in Colorado, I was quite entertained to discover they were building a faux-luxury subdivision in my old country that the developers were calling “The Meadows”.
I bet it would be possible to get a mansion-house there.
9:57 pm
Thing about Ellison is, I would have imagined the DFL voting public in the district would have demaded a modicum of competance in a candidate. I dont imagine he’ll last more than a couple terms before someone mounts a successful primary challenge.
10:58 pm
Attacks on Ellison fall into two categories: old news, and grasping at straws.
I am sure that at some point in his life, Keith Ellison has crossed paths with any number of sick individuals, so it’s perfectly logical to assume that KEITH ELLISON EATS CHILDREN AND RAPES THE ELDERLY.
As for the pro-Jewish/anti-Muslim debate, I believe they prefer the term “Zionist.” It’s a bit more accurate since it includes pro-Israel (the nation) evangelicals, and masks the conflicting motives of its underlying subgroups. The Israel issue is complicated, and between Christians, Jews, and Muslims, we already have enough hate to go around. That’s a family argument I just don’t want to be a part of.
11:28 pm
You’re all missing the point. Powerline clearly is not an Ellison fan, but their harshest criticism is for the local media.
Is this not a great all-star game?
4:43 pm
My congressman has the courage to speak the truth. The cowards try to turn his words against him. I urge you to read what he actually said and not what the flying monkies are spinning it as.
America needs to become the “Home of the Brave” again. Don’t let weaklings control you with fear.
