The Carnegie Hero Fund announced its 2007 winners last week. The Fund gives awards every year to people who risk their own lives “to an extraordinary degree” to save others. No Minnesota winners this year, but we have 85 local recipients since 1904. Search for award recipients by name, place and date. Despite recent studies suggesting Minnesotans’ altruistic nature, we’re lagging behind Iowa and Wisconsin in the hero department. [Via]

Boo Iowa! Boo Wisconsin!
Get with it, people! I’m gonna go out and save someone right now.

Shit. Max, I hope you saved two because I think I ran over a Scout of some sort on the way home from work. I dunno. There was a lot of merit badge transfer on my grill, whatever he was. Ironically, one was for “Lifesaving.”

If you look at the true definition of ALTRUISM, is it really a good thing for us and for society as a whole? I find it a scary proposition when people tell me to be more altruistic.
