In other news from “The Rich are Different” beat, Paris Hilton is out of jail.

“Par” for the course, eh? Par must be good buddies with the Hubbard boys, too, especially the one building the 16,000 sq. ft. monstrosity overlooking the St. Croix.

What, no google map link?
Boo.

Paris Hilton gets out of jail after 3 days. There really is no justice in the american system.

Paris Hilton gets out of jail after 3 days. There really is no justice in the American system.

The real injustice is that if a non-famous person did what she did they would have walked out of court with a $100 fine. Typically in heinous crimes the rich people get preferential treatment (See OJ).

In common everyday offenses famous people typically get shit all over because the prosecutor bends over backward to not give them preferential treatment.

It’s hard out there for an heiress!

Yeah, she can blow me. There’s absolutely NO REASON why she should have even got a DUI in the first place, given that she can afford to be driven around where ever the mood strikes her, and that’s EXACTLY why the justice system should be harder on her than on the rest of us. Ignorance of the law is no excuse…

I’m not sure where else to post this, but this has had me cracking up all morning:

http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/ars-takes-a-field-trip-the-creation-museum.ars

Ars Technica goes to the Creationist Museum.

Re one of the musuem exhibits: I was interested in the expressed belief that animals/people were created vegetarian. So after the Fall, the flesh devouring began? Are they saying eating meat is essentially a corrupted state of being? The fundies are full of love for the vegetarians?

As this thread has quickly devolved (as all threads eventually do) into the Paris Hilton, Hubbard-bashing, Creationism Museum thread, let me sprinkle in an old favorite topic: smoking ban!

She sets herself up for it bob, I’d have more sympathy for a celebrity who doesn’t flash her vagina to the entire world every other day…but that’s just me…

See? This is why the courts system is so effed up:

“The plaintiffs’ arguments are unpersuasive,” wrote a judge for the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in an unpublished opinion issued Thursday. “In particular, they fail to provide any sound legal argument or authorities supporting their claimed constitutional rights to smoke or to control smoking on premises they have opened to the public.”

It’s not that we have a constitutional right to smoke, it’s that the government has no constitutional right to tell us we can’t. The constitution isn’t about what I can do, it’s about what the government can and cannot do.

Maybe that’s the mysterious medial condition she got released for, alicat! Or maybe after only three days, her jailors were even more sick and tired of her than we all are….

To be fair, it’s in better shape than her face…not sure how. You’d think it would look like the entrance to a sewer.

Haha! New condition for the DSM: Photographmyvagitonitis. Very serious…

The government has a right to regulate behavior in public places. End of story. Good night.

Photographmyvagitonitis

Heh.

If I was an heiress, I would have (at minimum) a towncar take me everywhere. There is no reason for rich people to get a DUI. Even plebians like me cab it when they plan on having a few.

There is a mistaken impression that she and her family have gobs and gobs of money…they don’t, at least not enough to retask coke money for drivers or a car service apparently.

ARRRRGHHH!!!!111 Don’t get me started, David, even if you’re being sarcastic….

Let’s get this party started!

BTW, maz, you brilliant legal scholar, you:

“This represents the fifth unsuccessful effort to overturn Minnesota smoke-free laws. Prior cases have upheld the local laws in Bloomington, Hennepin County, Minneapolis and Saint Paul.”

No, seriously, Rick Hilton doesn’t even make the top 500 richest people in the country. He’s not even a billionaire. There are janitor’s at Google that have more money than him. He only has like a few hundred million.

My wife leaves US Weekly around the house. She really shouldn’t cuz it takes about 5 minutes to memorize the entire magazine. I can prove it, ask me which things celebrities do just like us…

I’m with Josie. I mean, we’re not together, but we think a like in that I would not drive if I was rich. Someone else would drive for me, like they do now, except I would get a better vehicle than a bus and I would get to control who can ride with me. And the air conditioning would be on more, because unlike stupid bus drivers I understand that you know what, IT GETS F****** HOT SITTING IN THE SUN FOR 25 MINUTES.

He only has like a few hundred million.

My heart bleeds…give me a break, it’s not like she can’t afford a cab…plus all that cash she’s raking in from “The Simple Life.” I’m not bitter of their success, just the thought that money and status grants you carte blanche to act like a complete asshole and then have the nerve to be shocked when you’re called on your bad behavior…

Paris in a cab? Pahleeeez!

David Foureyes Jun 8 2007

Seriously though, everytime I have to scope celeb vag getting out of cars they don’t know how to drive I ask myself the same question. I mean, what’s a driver cost? Maybe 50K a year? Probably less than she tips the poor girl that has to execute her brazillian’s every 3 days.

Moving on, I want a triceratops with a saddle. I bet no one would cut me off were I riding that!

Except Paris Hilton, riding a sporty T. Rex her daddy bought her. Her ride eats yours, then she flashes you and leaves…

Poor Paris. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Why in the hell we’re debating Paris Hilton on this thread? I mean, the woman is not a newsworthy item to report; I have no interest to get into this topic or talk about it at all.

The media however should be ashamed to provide coverage of this mental drivel. They should talk about other things like the immigration bill that was killed in the U.S. senate or the riots in Germany over the G8 summit. Hilton is just basically for the “Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood” tabloid losers than the five o’clock news hour.

But look at that pout!

Oh, and I’m full of shame or whatever.

I’m not saying, I’m just saying there is an article about Paris Hilton (or at least how celebrity affects the criminal justice system) on the front page, below the fold, of today’s NY Times….

This may or may not be another sign of the apocalypse.

The fact that some still consider the NY Times a credible newspaper is a sign of the apocalypse.

This thread says it all. It starts with a wonderful REAL local story: Vulgarian media cannibal throws old ladies and steadfast employees under the train WHILE crassly buying a $3.7 million home and the discussion turns to…Paris Hilton. And still you bitch that the newspapers put her on page 1. YOU are the problem. In Venezuela, the government
kills the media and tens of thousands of young people take to the streets and raise hell. In American, corporate raiders dismantle the media and, yawn, you quibble over an anorexic drunk. Socialism and capitalism are trying to do exactly the same thing: stifle free thought and oversight.
