MediaNews CEO Dean Singleton announced today that Guy Gilmore will replace Par Ridder as publisher of the Pioneer Press. Singleton says Gilmore was the leading architect behind the paper’s strategy of focusing heavily on the east metro. Par Ridder left the Pi Press earlier this year to become publisher of the Star Tribune.

The nationwide search for a replacement for Ridder was severely hampered by the Pioneer Press’ unusual requirement that their new editor, like their old, have a first name consisting of only three letters.

I’d love to see the re-worked Pi-press non-compete agreement that Guy Gilmore signed. He’s probably wearing an ankle tether.
